Announced for WrestleMania 40:

It's The End of The Bloodline As We Know It

For four years, fans have watched The Bloodline dominate WWE while preserving the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship reign of its Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.

The overarching storyline has been one of the greatest in WWE history and has produced unforgettable moments while simultaneously elevating the stock of all involved.

It will come to an end on April 6-7 in Philadelphia, though.

Cody Rhodes has recruited Seth Rollins and Jey Uso in combatting Reigns and Co., two Superstars with unfinished business with The Head of the Table and his stable.

It is a story straight out of the Marvel Universe, with The American Nightmare assembling a team of individuals to combat the greatest threat to WWE.

With Uso slated to fight his brother, Jimmy, and Rollins joining forces with Rhodes to square off with Reigns and The Rock, the stage will be set for the two-time men's Royal Rumble winner to battle The Tribal Chief one-on-one and end his run atop the company.

Should Reigns be relieved of the gold, it would create dissension within the family, with Rock questioning whether he is the right choice for The Tribal Chief or if The Great One should assume that role himself.

There is money in maintaining the status quo, as evidenced by the unprecedented success the company has enjoyed since the storyline's start.

However, there is equally as much to be made from watching the downfall of a once-proud empire and the many different threads that come out of it. At this point in the story, that is the more intriguing option.

Fan Service Finales

Rhodes defeating Reigns and winning the title that has eluded his family is the most obvious finish WWE can produce in Philadelphia.

It's what fans have demanded since The American Nightmare won the men's Rumble for the second time in January. It is the entire emphasis for the #WeWantCody movement.

That outcome is the one bit of fan service that is expected from the event, but it's not the only one.

Bayley paying off her women's Rumble victory and avenging the betrayal she suffered at the hands of her Damage CTRL teammates by defeating Iyo Sky for the WWE Women's Championship is another.

Once the most beloved star of any roster in WWE, it would cement her babyface turn and give the workhorse of the women's division the WrestleMania moment she has long deserved.

There is the potential for Sami Zayn to end Gunther's historic reign as intercontinental champion, while Jey Uso defeating his brother would serve as an exclamation point on his run as a popular singles babyface.

Add to those the possibility that CM Punk could interfere in the World Heavyweight Championship between Rollins and Drew McIntyre, preventing the latter from leaving with the title and intensifying that particular rivalry, is also a possibility.

Given how incredibly entertaining the Scot has been in 2024, though, that outcome may not produce the desired result of a thankful audience.

The first two seem most likely to occur, but this year's Showcase of the Immortals should serve as a bit of fan service from a company that is as hot as it has been because of the audience's investment in its stories.

Logan Paul Steals A Win

Logan Paul will defend the United States Championship in a Triple Threat match against Randy Orton and Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 40.

His hugely successful Prime Hydration company also kicks off its center-ring sponsorship of WWE premium live events at Lincoln Financial Field.

With neither Orton nor Owens having any obvious storyline direction as champion coming out of the show, and with the giant bottle of Prime adorning the canvas, it feels like Philadelphia will be the setting for Paul's biggest victory in WWE to this point.

The Maverick is a big star but lacking that high-profile victory on a huge stage that is not at the expense of Rey Mysterio or Ricochet. Expanding the list of Superstars he has defeated by adding two respected veterans to the list would elevate him and lend credibility to his reign.

It would also set him up on a collision course with someone like LA Knight, with whom he has a history dating back to last year's Money in the Bank.

Ripley Kicks Off Year 2 as Champion With Marquee Win

Last year, Rhea Ripley completed her rise to the top of the women's division with a win over Charlotte Flair for the then-SmackDown Women's Championship in a contest that Pro Wrestling Illustrated voters awarded Match of the Year honors.

It was a watershed moment for a young star who had been tapped for success before but finally brought all of the pieces together, finding her on-screen persona and evolving her in-ring work.

Since then, Ripley has only gotten better and developed into one of the biggest and most popular WWE Superstars. There is no greater proof of that than her spot in the main event of Elimination Chamber, where she was the centerpiece of marketing and promotional materials before defeating Nia Jax to retain her title in the main event in her native Australia.

The 27-year-old has momentum on her side and is so over with fans that even the idea of Becky Lynch, one of the most important performers in the history of women's wrestling and the first to close out WrestleMania in the main event, beating her seems unlikely.

Like Lynch in 2019, Ripley is so over with fans that she has become undeniable. Taking the title off of her without a definitive plan purely to give The Man her first reign in two years would be counterproductive.

WWE likely knows this. Other than potentially taking advantage of the spotlight that comes from the release of The Man's new autobiography, Ripley should kick off the second year of her dominant run with a significant victory.
