WWE's The Rock Jokes About Larry David Calling Him to Get Rid of Goalposts in UFL

Adam Wells

In a sequence of events that wouldn't feel out of place in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Rock responded to Larry David's request to get rid of goalposts for the UFL season.

David explained on Thursday, during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, he called The Rock to express his dislike of goalposts in football to make his pitch to do away with them altogether.

The Rock responded by saying the two "had a spirited and very productive conversation" about the situation.

Even though David acknowledged he wasn't aware, the extra-point rules from the XFL will carry over to the new league.

David previously said on Eisen's show that if he was named NFL commissioner for one day, the first thing he would do is get rid of the goalposts.

The XFL rule allowed teams to choose if they wanted to go for one, two or three points after scoring a touchdown. The one-point play was run from the opponent's two-yard line; the two-point play started at the five-yard line; and three-point play started at the 10-yard line.

This doesn't necessarily solve David's desire to get rid of goalposts altogether, but it does make them less relevant during games. It would probably be too much work to take out goalposts at stadiums just for UFL games, then put them back in after the season.

The XFL extra-point rule will be carrying over to the UFL, which is a merger of the XFL and USFL.

One thing the Rock did jokingly mention is the creation of the Larry Bowl in David's honor. We can only assume what the rules for that game would look, it's safe to assume anything related to goalposts would be banned.

Until David gets exactly what he wants, perhaps he will be able to enjoy UFL games because they aren't as dependent on kickers as the NFL.

The inaugural UFL season kicks off (sorry, Larry) on March 30 with the Arlington Renegades hosting the Birmingham Stallions, followed by the St. Louis Battlehawks taking on the Michigan Panthers.
