Chalk up another win for nominative determinism.
On Wednesday, Duke guard Jeremy Roach and Baylor guard Darianna Littlepage-Buggs announced NIL deals with insecticide company Raid.
In case the subtlety was lost on any fans, a spokesman for Raid told On3's Jeremy Crabtree that working with the two players will "help raise awareness about protecting against those other roaches and bugs."
Crabtree noted this is the first time Raid has signed college athletes to an endorsement deal. Pity the poor athletes with insect-adjacent names who couldn't cash in prior to the advent of the NIL era.
Roach and Littlepage-Buggs are both set to showcase their skills in the NCAA tournament.
Roach is averaging 14.0 points and 3.1 assists per game for the Blue Devils, who are seeded fourth in the South region of the men's bracket. They open play Friday against No. 13 Vermont.
Littlepage-Buggs and Baylor will get things started Friday as well as the No. 5 seed against 12th-seeded Vanderbilt in the Portland 3 regional. The sophomore is third on the team in points (10.5) and second in rebounds (7.2).
