New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton smacked three moonshot home runs to go along with eight RBI to lead the Bronx Bombers to a 12-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in spring training action on Wednesday.
Stanton's three home runs went a combined 1,334 feet:
Stanton's first blast—a two-run shot to give the Yanks a 3-0 first-inning lead—went over the batter's eye wall in center field:
Stanton then launched a no-doubt grand slam in the third inning for an 8-0 lead:
One inning later, Stanton scooped a pitch below the strike zone over the fence for a solo shot, putting the Yanks in front 9-0.
The 34-year-old is trying to bounce back from a rough two-season stretch in the Bronx in which he hit just .202 with a .729 OPS. He did post 55 home runs and 138 RBI over that two-year span, but injuries forced him to miss over 100 games during that time.
A healthy Stanton will undoubtedly be a massive boost to the Yankees this year, as evidenced by his tremendous performance Wednesday. If that's a sign of things to come, then Stanton could be in for a great comeback performance.
Stanton and the Yankees open the regular season on Thursday, March 28 at the Houston Astros.
