College Basketball Transfer Portal 2024: Tracking Decisions for Notable Players

While most fans were agonizing over their brackets after Selection Sunday, the college basketball transfer portal opened Monday, March 18.

It's a bizarre date for the portal to open, with the NCAA men's basketball tournament beginning a few days later. But there nevertheless was an immediate flurry of action, and we'll track the major transfer decisions below.

Luke Goode Transfers to Indiana from Illinois

Luke Goode announced that he will transfer to Indiana following three seasons at Illinois.

Goode is coming off his best collegiate season to date with the Illini. As a junior, the 6'7'' wing averaged 5.7 points per game and shot 38.9 percent from three.

Lamont Butler Transfers to Kentucky from SDSU

San Diego State transfer Lamont Butler announced he will play at Kentucky next season.

Butler, 21, averaged a career-high 9.3 points per game during his senior season with the Aztecs.

Duke Transfer Jeremy Roach Commits to Baylor

Duke transfer Jeremy Roach has committed to Baylor, he told Joe Tipton of On3.

Roach spent the last four seasons with the Blue Devils and is coming off a 2023-24 season in which he averaged 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals.

Amari Williams Commits to Kentucky After Drexel Stint

Drexel transfer Amari Williams has committed to Kentucky, his agent told Joe Tipton of On3.

Williams entered the transfer portal after spending four seasons with Drexel. He averaged 12.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 blocks during the 2023-24 season and was named the CAA's Defensive Player of the Year.

Stanford Transfer Kanaan Carlyle Commits to Indiana

Stanford transfer Kanaan Carlyle has committed to Indiana, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Carlyle averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists during his freshman season with the Cardinal.

Aden Holloway Commits to Alabama After Auburn Stint

Auburn transfer Aden Holloway has committed to Alabama, he told Joe Tipton of On3.

Holloway spent his freshman season with the Tigers. He averaged 7.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 35 games.

Michigan Lands Auburn Transfer Tre Donaldson

Auburn transfer Tre Donaldson has committed to Michigan, he told Joe Tipton of On3.

Donaldson spent the last two seasons with the Tigers. He averaged 6.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists during the 2023-24 campaign.

Alijah Martin Commits to Florida After Florida Atlantic Stint

Alijah Martin has committed to the Florida Gators after entering the transfer portal, he announced Sunday.

Martin spent the last four seasons with Florida Atlantic. He averaged 13.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists during the 2023-24 season.

Indiana State's Robbie Avila Commits to Saint Louis

Indiana State star Robbie Avila has committed to Saint Louis after spending the last two seasons with Indiana State, he announced Saturday.

Avila was the fifth Sycamores starter to enter the transfer portal.

Kentucky Transfer Zvonimir Ivisic Commits to Arkansas

Zvonimir Ivisic will follow former Kentucky coach John Calipari to Arkansas after announcing his transfer decision on Instagram, via Jeff Borzello of ESPN. The center averaged 5.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in just 11.7 minutes per game as a freshman last season.

Duke's Jaden Schutt Entering Portal

Duke guard Jaden Schutt announced he will enter the transfer portal, per Travis Branham of 247Sports. He appeared in just 14 games off the bench as a freshman in 2022-23, averaging 2.1 points per game, before redshirting his sophomore season.

Texas' Tyrese Hunter Enters Portal

Texas guard Tyrese Hunter will enter the transfer portal, according to Jeff Goodman of Field of 68. The rising senior averaged 11.1 points and 4.1 assists per game in 33 starts this season, his third straight year averaging at least 10 points per game.

UNC's Seth Trimble Enters Transfer Portal

North Carolina guard Seth Trimble announced that he will enter the transfer portal via a post on his Instagram story.

Trimble averaged 5.3 points per game this season for the Tar Heels.

Duke's Mark Mitchell to Enter Transfer Portal

Duke's Mark Mitchell told Joe Tipton of On3 that he plans to enter the transfer portal. Mitchell averaged 11.6 points and six rebounds last season.

Arizona's Kylan Boswell Enters Transfer Portal

Boswell averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 assists for the Wildcats last season.

Arizona's Oumar Ballo Enters Transfer Portal

Arizona center Oumar Ballo is entering the transfer portal, he told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Ballo spent the last three seasons with the Wildcats and is coming off a 2023-24 campaign in which he averaged 12.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 36 games while shooting 65.8 percent from the floor.

Arkansas' Baye Fall Enters Transfer Portal

Arkansas forward Baye Fall will enter the transfer portal, confirming the decision to Joe Tipton of On3.

Fall appeared in nine games this season for the Razorbacks.

Duke's Christian Reeves to Enter Transfer Portal

Reeves did not play for the Blue Devils this season as he redshirted the campaign.

Michigan's Dug McDaniel Commits to Kansas State

Michigan is losing its leading scorer from the 2023-24 season, as guard Dug McDaniel has committed to Kansas State after entering the transfer portal.

The sophomore averaged 16.3 points and 4.7 assists per game this season.

Notre Dame's Carey Booth Enters Portal

Illinois' Dain Dainja Enters Portal

Illinois forward Dain Dainja will enter the transfer portal, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN. The junior averaged 6.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while helping the Illini reach the Elite Eight, although he mostly came off the bench this season after playing a bigger role in 2022-23.

Josh Cohen Commits to Arkansas After Leaving UMass

Josh Cohen has committed to Arkansas after entering the transfer portal, per CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein. Cohen averaged 15.9 points and 6.8 rebounds in the 2023-24 campaign for UMass.

Yale's Danny Wolf Enters Transfer Portal

Spears averaged 10.6 points per game for the Seminoles this past season.

Rutgers' Clifford Omoruyi Enters Portal

Omoruyi averaged 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game during the 2023-24 season for the Scarlet Knights.

Adam Zagoria reported St. John's "will be involved" after Omoruyi enters the portal.

Michigan's Tarris Reed Jr. Enters Portal

In the wake of head coach Juwan Howard's firing after an 8-24 season, forward Tarris Reed told Joe Tipton of On3Sports.com he is entering the transfer portal.

The sophomore averaged 9.0 points and a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game in 32 appearances this season.

Louisville Loses Koron Davis, Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr.

The Louisville trio of Koron Davis, Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr. are entering the transfer portal, per Joe Tipton of On3 and Eric Crawford of WDRB.

Davis' decision doesn't come as a surprise, as he was dismissed from the team in December.

Glenn, a freshman, appeared in 32 games this season, averaging 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15.0 minutes per game. Williams, also a freshman, appeared in 32 games as well, averaging 5.3 points per contest.

Changes were expected for Louisville's roster after the firing of head coach Kenny Payne, and it wouldn't be a shock if more Cardinals hit the portal.

Oklahoma State Loses Javon Small and Brandon Garrison

Oklahoma State's Javon Small will play elsewhere in the 2024-25 season, per Travis Branham of 247Sports. He'll be one of the bigger names on the transfer portal after averaging 15.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists for the Cowboys this season.

Brandon Garrison is also departing, per ESPN's Jeff Borzello, after averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds this past season. Both moves come in the wake of Oklahoma State firing head coach Mike Boynton on Wednesday.

Miami's Michael Nwoko Enters Portal

Miami center Michael Nwoko has "submitted the paperwork necessary to enter the transfer portal," according to 247Sports' Joe Tipton, after averaging 2.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game as a freshman.

Stanford Losing Andrej Stojaković and Kanaan Carlyle

Stanford's firing of head coach Jerod Haase has already had a ripple effect, as both Andrej Stojaković and Kanaan Carlyle intend to enter the portal, per 247Sports' Joe Tipton and Tobias Bass of The Athletic.

The duo combined for 19.3 points per game this past season.

Mikeal Brown-Jones Leaving UNCG

Graduate transfer Mikeal Brown-Jones is entering the transfer portal, per Jamie Shaw of On3, after averaging 18.9 points per game this past season. He spent two seasons with UNC Greensboro after two years with VCU.

Toby Okani to Enter Portal, Declare for NBA Draft

UIC's Toby Okani will both enter the transfer portal and declare for the NBA draft, per 247Sports' Joe Tipton, so his college career may be over regardless.

He averaged 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds this past season as a senior.

Frankie Fidler Leaving Omaha

Omaha junior forward Frankie Fidler is entering the transfer portal, according to Borzello, after averaging 20.1 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting just under 35.6 percent from three on the season.

Devin Askew Entering Portal

California senior guard Devin Askew is entering the transfer portal, per Tipton, after appearing in just six games due to injury this past season.

He put up a career-best 15.5 points per game for the Golden Bears in the 2022-23 campaign.
