NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: Scouts 'Love' WR Class; 'Real Possibility' 7 WRs Go Round 1

If you're an NFL team that needs a wide receiver, the 2024 draft is going to be a party for you.

Per ESPN's Jordan Reid, scouts across the league "love" this year's receiver class and there's a "real possibility" seven players at the position come off the board in round one.

The love for wideouts in the 2024 draft has been known for some time, but it seems like it keeps growing in the wake of the scouting combine and as pro-days ramp up across the country.

Ohio State star Marvin Harrison Jr. made it known how confident he is about his draft stock that he skipped virtually every event at the combine, including his scheduled press conference.

B/R's NFL scouting department has three receivers—Harrison, LSU's Malik Nabers and Washington's Rome Odunzeranked among the top-10 prospects. Harrison checks in at No. 1 overall, ahead of Brock Bowers, Drake Maye and Caleb Williams.

Nine of the top 50 players and 27 of the top 200 are wide receivers. This adds more intrigue to the offseason with several established wideouts looking for lucrative long-term contracts

Tee Higgins has reportedly requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals after they used the franchise tag to keep him from becoming a free agent.

Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has made it clear he doesn't intend on moving Justin Jefferson as the two sides try to negotiate an extension. There's some speculation the 24-year-old could end up with a deal that surpasses Nick Bosa's five-year, $170 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.

Speaking of the 49ers, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier this month they are planning to open talks about an extension with Brandon Aiyuk.

Of that trio, Jefferson would seem to be the least-likely to be traded. But the Bengals and 49ers could potentially have trouble finding commensurate value for Higgins and Aiyuk if they want to entertain trade talks because of how deep this draft is in receivers.

While no one will argue that Higgins and Aiyuk aren't very good, there is a ceiling to how much teams would likely be willing to offer knowing they also have to sign them to a contract that could be in the range of $25 million per season.

The last time seven receivers were selected in the first round was 2004, led by Larry Fitzgerald at No. 3 overall to the Arizona Cardinals. There have been six wideouts taken in the first round three times in the past eight years, most recently in 2022 when all six went in the top 18.
