Knicks Rumors: OG Anunoby Could Return from Elbow Injury for Game vs. 76ers

Andrew Peters

New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby is expected to return to the court as soon as Tuesday after missing more than a month of play with an elbow injury, per The Athletic and Stadium's Shams Charania.

Anunoby, who hasn't suited up since Jan. 27, could make his return against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. Charania noted that he is expected to be upgraded on the injury report.

The former Toronto Raptor who was traded in December is putting up 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals since he was traded to New York, though he has been limited to just 14 games due to the injury.

The seventh-year player has been a consistent force on the defensive side for the last few seasons, leading the league in steals a year ago and putting up similar defensive numbers this year. On offense, he is a reliable third option behind Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle.

The Knicks currently sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings at 37-27. While they are in good standing right now, just two games separate them from the eighth-placed Miami Heat, so keeping their position will be important as the season nears a close.

New York is coming off a Conference Semifinals appearance and is looking to make it further this time. With Brunson emerging as a star and the Knicks holding solid pieces like Anunoby and Randle, a Conference Finals appearance isn't out of reach.

If Anunoby manages to get back into rhythm after missing significant time, the Knicks could be in for a deep playoff run.
