4-Star Athlete Zymear Smith Commits to Alabama over Georgia, Texas, More

The Alabama Crimson Tide appear intent on remaining a force in the college football recruiting world, even without Nick Saban as head coach.

Brett Greenberg of 247 Sports reported that four-star athlete and class of 2025 product Zymear Smith committed to the Crimson Tide on Saturday.

He committed to Alabama over Georgia, Texas and Tennessee and credited the new coaching staff's quick transition into the role as something that swayed his decision.

"...The coaches work together well like they've been with each other for years," Smith said, per Haynes Fawcett of On3. "Half of them are new and their defensive scheme matches my play style and I feel that it would be better for my future."

He said that his closest relationship is with co-defensive coordinator Maurice Linguist but that the staff as a whole has conveyed its goals and how he can become a contributor for the Crimson Tide.

"I'm closest to coach Mo but I stay in touch with the whole staff like (co-defenisive coordinator Colin Hitschler) coach Hitch and coach (Courtney) Morgan," Smith said, per Fawcett. "The plan is to get 1 % better everyday and lock down on that defensive side."

On3 rates Smith as the No. 325 player nationally in the Class of 2025, the No. 13 athlete and the seventh-best player from Maryland. He attends North Caroline High School and played running back and cornerback for the Bulldogs. He had 670 rushing yards, 427 receiving yards and 120 return yards in nine games in 2023-24. He also had 22 tackles on defense.

He is the fourth 2025 commit for an Alabama class that is ranked 28th nationally, according to 247Sports.
