NBA Rumors: Giannis Out vs. Jayson Tatum, Celtics; Bucks 10 Games Back in Standings

Timothy Rapp

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo will not play Wednesday night against the Boston Celtics due to a hamstring injury, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Wednesday will mark Giannis' second consecutive missed game, as he also sat out Sunday's win over the Phoenix Suns with a hamstring ailment.

The Bucks' chances to securing the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference were already slim to none since the Celtics hold a 10-game lead over them, but being without Antetokounmpo will make it even tougher to make up ground.

If the Bucks lose, they'll have to worry about hanging onto the No. 2 seed, as the third-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers are just one game behind them.

No injury, big or small, is good news for a Milwaukee team fighting for playoff positioning and an NBA title. The Bucks big man remains a legitimate MVP candidate, averaging 30.8 points, 11.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists 1.2 steals and 1.0 block per game on the season while shooting a career-best 61.6 percent from the field, plus 29.2 percent from three.

While he's missed the odd game or so this season, he's largely been healthy, a major reason for Milwaukee's 44-24 record.

Prior to Sunday, he last was out of action in early March with a left Achilles injury, though it only cost him one game. The Bucks won that contest over the Los Angeles Clippers 113-106, behind Damian Lillard's 41 points.

The presence of Lillard has given the team another superstar to carry the load, though there have been growing pains. But Dame said after that contest that the Bucks were evolving into a better version of themselves.

"It just shows who we're becoming," he told reporters. "Nobody talked about who wasn't playing before the game... that just shows what's expected, the standard that we're starting to have, and who we're becoming as a team."

The absolute best version of themselves involves the two-time MVP Antetokounmpo, however. With Giannis out for Wednesday's game, look for Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, Brook Lopez, Malik Beasley and Jae Crowder to pick up the slack alongside Lillard.
