NFL Trade Rumors: Saints' Marshon Lattimore Believed to Be Available in Free Agency

The New Orleans Saints could trade cornerback Marshon Lattimore in the offseason, as "several teams" believe he's available (per ESPN's Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler).

Lattimore signed a five-year extension with the organization worth $97.6 million in 2021, although his base salary is a mere $1.2 million due to a restructure at the end of the 2023 season. New Orleans converted $13.79 million of Lattimore's $15 million 2024 base salary into an option bonus, creating $11.032 million in 2024 cap space (via ESPN's Field Yates).

If the Saints trade the 27-year-old after June 1 but prior to exercising the option bonus, they would have $10.6 million and $20.6 million of dead cap in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

Injuries have limited Lattimore to just 17 starts over the past two seasons, although he made three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances from 2019 through 2021. During his 2023 campaign, he racked up 48 tackles and eight passes defensed while recording one interception.

Pro Football Focus gave Lattimore a commendable 67.4 grade for his efforts in 2023, allowing just 27 receptions on 46 targets. Although his contract situation could give New Orleans a reason to move him, he's still proven that he can be an effective player when he's not dealing with injuries.

For a team that's in need of some secondary help, the Saints could be a viable partner if they're willing to entertain offers for Lattimore.
