It appears college football intends to pick up some of the rules and regulations used by the NFL ahead of the 2024 season.

College football leaders are expected to finalize a recommendation for the use of a player-to-coach helmet communications system, the use of tablets both on the sideline and in the locker room at halftime and a two-minute warning, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.

Dellenger noted that college football has been hesitant to implement these changes in past years because of "cost-containment issues."

The player-to-coach helmet communications system could be revolutionary in college football, and it will give some of the NFL's top prospects an idea of how things work at the next level.

The system will "mirror" the one used by the NFL, according to Dellenger.

One member of each team will be equipped with the communication technology in his helmet. Any communication is ended when the play clock reaches 15 seconds, which also the mandatory cut-off time in the NFL.

The use of tablets could also help elevate competition during games. The NFL already allows the use of tablets, which allows players to review in-game video to see where a play might have gone wrong.

The two-minute warning, meanwhile, will occur at the two-minute mark of each half. Officials are referring to the concept as a "two-minute timeout," according to Dellenger.

Teams from 14 bowl games last season were allowed to use the tablets and coach-to-player helmet communications as part of an experiment, Dellenger reported in December.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders were among those teams, and Cayman Ancell, the team's head equipment manager, told Dellenger that the players "loved it."

"Quarterback loved it. He didn't have to look at the sideline. He could keep his eyes on the field," Ancell added.
