Schultz: J.J. McCarthy, Spencer Rattler to Throw at 2024 NFL Combine Amid Draft Buzz

Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy and South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler are expected to throw at this week's NFL Scouting Combine in front of NFL evaluators, Jordan Schultz reported for Bleacher Report on Sunday.

McCarthy is considered to be the No. 55 overall player on Bleacher Report's 2024 NFL Draft Big Board with a grade of 7.3. He is the No. 4 quarterback behind North Carolina's Drake Maye, USC's Caleb Williams and LSU's Jayden Daniels.

Daniels, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, won't throw at the combine.

Rattler is considered to be the No. 113 overall player on B/R's Big Board with a grade of 6.6 and is the No. 7 quarterback.

In his third season at Michigan in 2023, McCarthy recorded 2,991 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and four interceptions to help lead the Wolverines to a national championship over Washington. While McCarthy initially seemed poised to be taken after a handful of quarterbacks, ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. believes he will be the fourth quarterback taken off the board.

Rattler, who spent five collegiate seasons between the Gamecocks and Oklahoma, had 3,186 passing yards and 19 touchdowns on the year. While he posted some impressive numbers, his decision-making was a big question mark in his final two campaigns as he threw 20 interceptions across the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Still, Rattler has shown plenty of potential, managing to post solid numbers despite playing on a South Carolina team lacking a strong offensive line.

The two quarterbacks will get the chance to raise their draft stock this week in Indianapolis as they look to impress scouts. The Combine will take place Feb. 26 through March 4.
