Christian Cage Beats Daniel Garcia to Retain AEW TNT Title at Revolution 2024

Mike Chiari

Christian Cage beat Daniel Garcia at AEW Revolution on Sunday to retain the TNT Championship.

Cage has been embroiled in a rivalry with his former best friend and tag team partner, Adam Copeland, for the past few months. Most assumed a rematch between Christian and Copeland was bound to happen at Revolution, but an unexpected twist occurred.

On a recent episode of Dynamite, Copeland and Garcia faced off in a match to determine the No. 1 contender for the TNT title and Cage's opponent at Revolution.

Cage interfered in the match along with Patriarchy stablemates Killswitch and Nick Wayne, resulting in it being ruled a no contest. The Patriarchy focused its attack on Copeland, taking him out with a steel chair shot to the head.

Copeland was ruled unable to compete at Revolution due to injury, so Garcia stepped up and challenged Christian to a TNT Championship match at the pay-per-view.

Cage obliged, but not before he dug deep into Garcia's past and attempted to play mind games with the young wrestler. Christian taunted Garcia over the fact that his father had died, and he told Garcia that he wanted to be his new father.

Entering Revolution, Cage had essentially been in control of the TNT title since June 2023 when Killswitch beat Wardlow for the championship.

Although Killswitch was the official titleholder, Christian acted as though he was, and he later did become the actual champion by winning a three-way match against Killswitch and Darby Allin.

Cage's title reign was momentarily interrupted when he lost to Copeland at Worlds End in December, but Killswitch gave Christian his guaranteed title opportunity, and Cage immediately cashed it in to become champion again.

Garcia has long been viewed as an up-and-coming star in AEW and one of the best in-ring technicians in the company, but Sunday represented the biggest opportunity of his career thus far.

While there are likely more opportunities in Garcia's future, he was unable to pry the title away from Cage at Revolution.
