The ongoing feud between Draymond Green and Grant Williams added another chapter on Friday night during and after the Golden State Warriors' 97-84 win over the Charlotte Hornets.
Williams got into it with Warriors guard Lester Quinones late in the fourth quarter when the Hornets seemed to take exception to Quinones going for a layup when the outcome was already decided.
Green didn't get involved in that skirmish, but he ripped into Williams for acting like a "tough guy" during his postgame press conference.
The rivalry between Green and Williams began in the 2022 NBA Finals when Williams was playing for the Boston Celtics. They had a heated exchange in Game 2 that resulted in Green receiving a technical foul.
The next game saw Williams get called for an illegal screen when he ran into Green, who got up and started clapping with the forward right in front of him. They had to be separated, but the officials didn't assess either a technical foul.
Even though the Warriors won that series in six games, Williams said on Duncan Robinson's podcast the Celtics were "confidently" the better team
During his turn as host of the 2022 ESPYs, Stephen Curry took a dig at Williams in his opening monologue.
"It's great to see you again my man," Curry said to Williams. "I know you like this color, I'll let you borrow it after I'm done. I might even let you wear a ring."
Things were calm between Williams and the Warriors when they played the Celtics during the 2022-23 season. There were no notable incidents earlier this season when Williams was on the Dallas Mavericks and they played Golden State on Dec. 30.
Williams was traded by the Mavericks to Charlotte on Feb. 8. One reason the Mavs were quick to move on from the 25-year-old after acquiring him in a sign-and-trade deal during the offseason was reportedly because his personality rubbed some people in the organization the wrong way.
Green and the Warriors got the last laugh on Williams once again with Friday's victory. They have won 10 of their last 12 games and are three games over .500 (29-26) for the first time since Nov. 8.
