Charlie Woods had a day to forget in Thursday's pre-qualifier for the 2024 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches.

The son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods shot 16 over par at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, in his first-ever attempt at qualifying for a PGA Tour event.

The 15-year-old was the first player to arrive at Thursday's pre-qualifier, but he got out to a rough start with a pair of bogeys through his first four holes and a double bogey on the fifth hole.

Woods struggled mightily on the par-4 seventh hole, carding a 12 before closing out the front nine with a 47. He was slightly better on the back nine, carding two bogeys, a double bogey and six pars to finish with an 86.

Had Woods put up a top-five performance, he would have advanced to Monday's final qualifying round, which includes the top 25 players and ties from each of the five qualifying sites.

Four players from Monday's final qualifying round will advance to the Cognizant Classic, which is scheduled for Feb. 29 to March 3 at PGA National Members Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

While Woods is certainly disappointed with the result, Thursday's event was a great way for him to gain experience.

He has already accomplished a lot at his age, too, appearing in the last four PNC Championships with his father and helping his high school golf team capture a state title. He also tied for 17th at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship in November.

With Woods already attempting to qualify for a PGA Tour event, it might not be too long before we see him on the Tour representing the next generation of golfers.
