Toni Storm Beats Deonna Purrazzo to Retain AEW Women's World Title at Revolution 2024

Mike Chiari

Toni Storm defeated Deonna Purrazzo at AEW Revolution on Sunday to retain the AEW Women's World Championship.

After a highly successful run of nearly four years in TNA that saw her hold the Impact Knockouts Championship three times and the Impact Knockouts World Tag Team Championships once, Purrazzo arrived in AEW in January.

Deonna interrupted a heel promo being cut by Storm's hype woman, Mariah May, on the Jan. 3 episode of Dynamite in Purrazzo's home state of New Jersey, and she announced that she had signed with the company.

That instantly put Purrazzo on Storm's radar, and it wasn't long before "Timeless" Toni pulled The Virtuosa into her over-the-top and entertaining promo segments.

While Storm was running Purrazzo down verbally, Deonna was racking up victories, beating the likes of Red Velvet, Anna Jay, Skye Blue, Leila Grey, Taya Valkyrie and Kiera Hogan.

Despite not having been with AEW for long, Purrazzo was granted a title shot against Storm during her winning streak, and it didn't sit well with Toni.

Storm felt Purrazzo was being given a title opportunity too quickly, but her objections did little to change things, as she was tasked with putting her 100-plus-day title run on the line at Revolution.

Since shifting to the Timeless character, Storm has been not only one of the most entertaining figures in the AEW women's division, but in all of AEW as a whole.

Meanwhile, Purrazzo brought some much-needed credibility to the AEW women's division after dominating in TNA, so it didn't take much for the fans to get behind her as an instant title challenger.

The resourceful Storm managed to retain at Revolution, but Purrazzo nearly broke through in her AEW pay-per-view debut, and it is likely that there will be many more championship opportunities in her future.
