It turns out Kliff Kingsbury won't be joining Antonio Pierce's staff to become the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kingsbury's agent, Erik Burkhardt, told ESPN's Adam Schefter his client has withdrawn his name from consideration for the position.
Per Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, contract talks between the two sides broke down in the past 24 hours and Kingsbury told people in the Raiders organization yesterday he wouldn't be joining the staff.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo noted Kingsbury is "in play" for other jobs, including the Washington Commanders' vacancy at offensive coordinator.
Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston reported on Thursday that Kingsbury was the frontrunner to be Vegas' next offensive coordinator.
Per ESPN's Paul Gutierrez, Kingsbury was one of four people who interviewed for the job in the past two weeks. Luke Getsy, Alex Van Pelt and Mike Sullivan were the others.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher is another candidate who had an interview scheduled with the club.
Among the candidates who have already met with the Raiders, Van Pelt is the only one who has been hired by another team. He was named offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots on Thursday.
Pitcher and Sullivan, who is the quarterbacks coach for the Steelers, are still employed by other teams. Getsy was fired as Chicago Bears offensive coordinator on Jan. 10.
The Raiders took the interim tag off Pierce to make him their full-time head coach. They hired Tom Telesco as their new general manager after he spent 11 seasons in the same role with the Los Angeles Chargers before getting fired on Dec. 15.
Kingsbury spent the 2023 season as a senior offensive assistant on Lincoln Riley's staff at USC. He was the Arizona Cardinals head coach for four seasons from 2019 to 2022. They went 28-37-1 with one playoff appearance.
The Cardinals are the only NFL team that Kingsbury has worked for. He has 12 seasons of coaching experience at the college level, including six seasons as Texas Tech's head coach from 2013 to 2018.
