Eagles Rumors: Texans' Jerrod Johnson Interviews for OC Job After Brian Johnson Exit

After parting ways with offensive coordinator Brian Johnson on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles reportedly have begun the process of finding his replacement.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson completed an interview with the Eagles for their OC opening on Wednesday.

A former quarterback who starred at Texas A&M before joining the NFL in 2011 as an undrafted free agent, Johnson is still young in his coaching career with just one year of experience as a QB coach. However, his work with the Texans this season appears to be enough to have him in consideration for OC roles, as he has also received interview requests from the Cleveland Browns and the New Orleans Saints regarding their respective vacancies.

Johnson helped lead the development of Houston rookie sensation C.J. Stroud, who is universally regarded as the favorite to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after his stellar showing this season. In 15 games, the 2023 No. 2 overall pick threw for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns against just five interceptions.

Stroud led the Texans to a 10-7 record for their first winning season and first playoff berth since 2020. Houston defeated the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wild Card Round before falling to the Baltimore Ravens this past Saturday in a Divisional Round matchup.

The Eagles have openings at both coordinator positions after parting ways with defensive coordinator Sean Desai and defensive play-caller Matt Patricia this week in addition to letting Johnson go.

It seems that head coach Nick Sirianni's job is safe as Philadelphia tries to bounce back from a disappointing end to this season that saw the team lose five of its last six games and fall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card Round. It will be important for the Eagles to put together the right coaching staff under Sirianni if they hope to re-establish themselves as contenders in the NFC in 2024.
