POSITIVES
— Special arm talent. Loose, explosive throwing motion with high-end velocity and control.
— Excels at throwing with bodies around him and from awkward platforms. Contorts his body to make it work.
— Above-average pocket toughness and movement. Willing to stand pat and plays with eyes downfield.
— Very good accuracy to all levels. Throws with good pace and arc; rarely makes WRs adjust for the ball unnecessarily.
— Aggressive, creative playmaker. Can break structure and make unorthodox plays.
NEGATIVES
— Short build. May struggle finding NFL throwing lanes and breaking tackles in the pocket.
— Below-average athletic testing overall. Slightly better athlete on film, but probably not good enough to support his scrambling tendencies moving forward.
— Aggression can boil over into recklessness too often.
— Solid processor overall, but can be stubborn based on pre-snap reads at times.

OVERALL
Spencer Rattler is arm talent personified.
Despite being a shorter quarterback at 6'0" and 211 pounds, Rattler packs a punch with his arm. He plays with a loose, snappy throwing motion and finds ways to get the ball out cleanly and powerfully regardless of his throwing platform.
Better yet, Rattler throws with a ton of velocity and a surprising dose of control. He can add or take off zip as needed, and he can put proper arc under the ball to access all three levels of the field. Rattler can bomb it deep just as well as he can lay in a feathery corner route. His arm talent and elasticity is eerily similar to that of Caleb Williams.
Rattler is battle-tested in the pocket as well. South Carolina's offensive line let him get beat up for two seasons, but Rattler regularly showed the willingness to maneuver around the pocket with eyes up and take hits as needed to get the ball out. He was never scared to see a play to its end.
Rattler was forced to figure things out on the fly a lot, and he acquitted himself well in that regard. Rattler is not a stunning athlete, but he has enough short-area burst and fluidity to get himself out of jams. Once free, he has a solid eye for finding throws outside the pocket and on the move.
With all of that being said, Rattler still needs to settle down a bit. His aggression and creativity too often boils into recklessness. That's just the deal you make with these types of quarterbacks, but it may be tough for some teams to swallow.
Rattler's diminutive frame and poor athletic testing also raise concern about his NFL upside. There aren't many quality quarterbacks that are Rattler's size, not to mention how poorly he tested as a player who relies on scrambling. That aspect of Rattler's profile is reminiscent of Baker Mayfield, another shorter quarterback whose middling athleticism became more of an issue in the NFL.
Overall, Rattler's arm is too enticing to pass up for too long. There are only a handful of players who throw with his flexibility and arm strength and accuracy. Rattler has the aggressive mindset to be a difference maker, too. He'll just need time to find the balance with his aggression and continue adjusting to pro-style passing concepts.
