NFL Rumors: La'el Collins, Cowboys Haven't Agreed to Contract Despite Buzz

The Dallas Cowboys and offensive tackle La'el Collins have not reached a contract despite rumors the two sides had agreed on a reunion, according to B/R's Jordan Schultz.

Previous reports indicated Collins was on the verge of signing to the Cowboys' practice squad. Schultz reported the Cowboys are "very motivated" to sign the free-agent tackle, but no agreement is in place.

Collins has sat out the entire 2023 season while recovering from a torn ACL and MCL.

After spending his first seven years in Dallas, Collins played the 2022 campaign with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals released him in September amid his recovery from the knee injury.

Collins' fit in Dallas is obvious. He knows the team's offensive system and has experience at both guard and tackle for a deep playoff push. The Cowboys are currently hoping starting left guard Tyler Smith will be able to play in Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders despite a torn plantar fascia in his left foot.

Undrafted rookie T.J. Bass replaced Smith in last week's win over the Detroit Lions. Left tackle Tyron Smith and right guard Zack Martin have also been dealing with injuries, so having a player of Collins' caliber and versatility could prove critical if the line can't stay healthy.
