Shohei Ohtani headlined the free-agent class and signed a historic 10-year $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the richest deal ever struck in North American sports.

Meanwhile, pitching dominates the top end of the market.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is making the jump to the United States fresh off being named Japan's best pitcher and the Pacific League MVP for third successive season. Blake Snell, the recently crowned National League Cy Young, is in the mix as well along with Aaron Nola.

Mitch Garver agreed to a two-year, $24 million contract with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Yuki Matsui Signs with Padres

Free-agent reliever Yuki Matsui and the San Diego Padres agreed to terms on a five-year, $28 million contract, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The deal reportedly includes opt-outs after the third and fourth years.

Shelby Miller Signs with Tigers

Free-agent pitcher Shelby Miller and the Detroit Tigers agreed to terms on a contract, pending a physical, according to ESPN's Kiley McDaniel.

Miller, 33, spent last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers following a stint with the San Francisco Giants in 2022.

Yoshiobu Yamamoto Signs with Dodgers

Star Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto agreed to sign a blockbuster deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, Yamamoto agreed to a 12-year, $325 million deal following strong pushes from the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, among others.

Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor Traded to Mets

The Milwaukee Brewers traded pitcher Adrian Houser and outfielder Tyrone Taylor to the New York Mets in return for a minor leaguer, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Houser made 23 appearances with 21 starts last season and posted a 4.12 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 96 strikeouts in 111.1 innings. Taylor appeared in 81 games in 2023 and slashed .234/.267/.446 with 10 home runs, 35 RBI and nine stolen bases.

Andrew McCutchen Re-signs with Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates are retaining a franchise legend after agreeing to a one-year, $5 million deal with Andrew McCutchen, according to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Orioles Trade for Jonathan Heasley

The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Jonathan Heasley in a trade with the Kansas City Royals, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. Rookie-ball right-hander Cesar Espinal went back to Kansas City in the deal.

Heasley made 12 appearances in 2023 and posted a 7.20 ERA.

Martín Pérez Signs with Pirates

Pitcher Martín Pérez agreed to a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, per Robert Murray of FanSided.

Pérez made 35 appearances with 20 starts for the Texas Rangers last season and finished with a 4.45 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 93 strikeouts in 141.2 innings.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Re-signs with Diamondbacks

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Lourdes Gurriel Jr. agreed to a deal to return to the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he was an All-Star and claimed a National League pennant in 2023.

DH Matt Carpenter, LHP Ray Kerr Traded to Braves

Michael Wacha Signs with Royals

Free-agent pitcher Michael Wacha and the Kansas City Royals agreed to terms on a two-year, $32 million contract.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the deal includes an opt-out after the first year, plus innings bonuses.

Hunter Renfroe Signs with Royals

Tyler Glasnow Traded to Dodgers

The Dodgers reportedly acquired starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for pitcher Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny Deluca, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The deal is "contingent on Glasnow signing an extension with L.A., which is expected," according to that report.

Jack Flaherty to the Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are reportedly signing starting pitcher Jack Flaherty to a one-year, $14 million deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The deal can increase to as much as $15 million if he hits a number of thresholds, with "start-based bonuses of $250,000 for the 26th, $250,000 for the 28th and $500,000 for the 30th" start, per that report.

Tyler Mahle Signs with Rangers

The Texas Rangers have agreed to a two-year, $22 million deal with pitcher Tyler Mahle, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. The 29-year-old, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, can add another $5 million based on innings pitched in 2025.

Mahle posted a 3.16 ERA in five starts with the Minnesota Twins in 2023 before his injury.

Taylor Clarke Traded to Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired pitcher Taylor Clarke in a trade with the Kansas City Royals, according to Robert Murray of Fansided.

Roberto Perez Signs with Red sox

Catcher Roberto Perez and the Boston Red Sox agreed to terms on a contract, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Perez, 34, spent 2023 with the San Francisco Giants following stints with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Guardians.

Cooper Criswell Signs with Red Sox

Relief pitcher agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. He appeared in 10 games for the Tampa Bay Rays last season and posted a 5.73 ERA.

Rowdy Tellez Signs with Pirates

Rowdy Tellez agreed to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com and Robert Murray of FanSided. The contract is worth approximately $3 million and can increase to $4 million if he reaches performance bonuses.

Tellez slashed .215/.291/.376 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI in 105 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last year. He hit 35 home runs during the 2022 campaign.

Jung Hoo Lee Signs with Giants

The San Francisco Giants have signed outfielder Jung Hoo Lee to a six-year, $113 million contract, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The deal includes an opt out after four years.

The 25-year-old spent the last seven seasons in the KBO, producing a .340 batting average and 65 home runs in this time.

Dylan Floro Signs with Nationals

Relief pitcher Dylan Floro agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million deal with the Washington Nationals, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The contract also includes performance bonuses.

Floro made 62 appearances for the Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins last season and finished with a 4.76 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 58 strikeouts.

Chris Stratton Signs with Royals

Right-handed reliever Chris Stratton agreed to a one-year contract with the Kansas City Royals, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Stratton will make $3.5 million in 2024, per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

Feinsand noted the deal also includes a $4.5 million player option for 2025.

Stratton went 2-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 64 appearances between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers in 2023.

Seth Lugo Signs with Royals

Seth Lugo and the Kansas City Royals reportedly agreed to terms on a three-year, $45 million contract, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Lugo, 34, went 8-7 with a 3.57 ERA across 26 starts for the San Diego Padres last season.

Trey Sweeney Traded to Dodgers from Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney (New York's No. 8 prospect, per MLB.com) from the New York Yankees in exchange for left-handed reliever Victor González and infielder Jorbit Vivas (Los Angeles' No. 10 prospect, per MLB.com), according to Alden González of ESPN.

The trade clears two spots on the Dodgers' 40-man roster, as the team looks to finalize the Shohei Ohtani and Joe Kelly contracts.

Christian Bethancourt Traded to Marlins from Guardians

The Miami Marlins acquired catcher Christian Bethancourt from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for cash considerations.

Austin Hedges Signs with Guardians

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported the Cleveland Guardians have signed catcher Austin Hedges to a deal worth $4 million. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand noted that it's a one-year contract. A nine-year veteran, Hedges spent two-plus seasons in Cleveland from 2020 to 2022 and split the 2023 campaign between the Pittsburgh Pirates and World Series-winning Texas Rangers.

Will Smith Signs with Royals

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported the Kansas City Royals signed left-handed reliever Will Smith to a one-year, $5 million contract. Smith has been part of each of the last three World Series champions.

Andrew Chafin Signs with Tigers

Jason Beck of MLB.com reported the Tigers agreed to a one-year, $4.3 million deal with veteran reliever Andrew Chafin. The deal contains a club option for the 2025 season.

Shohei Ohtani Signs with Dodgers

Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a massive 10-year, $700 million contract, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported the deal has "unprecedented" deferrals.

Braves and Angels Agree to 4-Player Deal

The Los Angeles Angels have traded catcher Max Stassi and infielder David Fletcher to the Atlanta Braves for right-handed relief pitcher Tyler Thomas and first baseman Evan White, per ESPN's Jeff Passan, who provided more insight into the deal.

"The Braves already have a pair of catchers in Sean Murphy and Travis d'Arnaud, so they'll likely look to move Stassi, who is slated to make $7 million this season," Passan wrote.

"It's a similar situation to what they did with Marco Gonzales, and with a paucity of FA catchers, it should happen."

Tyler O'Neill Traded to Red Sox from Cardinals

Tyler O'Neill was traded to the Boston Red Sox from the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday in exchange for pitcher Nick Robertson and minor league pitcher Victor Santos.

Jorge López Signs with Mets

Relief pitcher Jorge López agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the New York Mets, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Lopez pitched for the Minnesota Twins, Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles in 2023, putting together a 6-2 record with a 5.95 ERA out of the bullpen.

Jeimer Candelario Signs with Reds

After finishing last season with the Chicago Cubs, Jeimer Candelario is staying in the National League Central by joining the Cincinnati Reds.

Per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, Candelario agreed to a deal with the Reds on Wednesday night. Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer added it's a three-year, $45 million agreement with a team option that could make the total value $60 million over four years.

Candelario split time last season between the Cubs and Washington Nationals. He hit .251/.336/.471 with a career-high 22 homers and 70 RBI in 140 games.

Nick Senzel Agrees to Deal with Nationals

The Nationals will add versatile outfielder Nick Senzel to their roster next season.

Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post and MLB Network, Senzel's agreement with the Nationals is for one year and $2 million with an additional $1 million in performance bonuses.

A former first-round pick by the Cincinnati Reds, Senzel became a free agent in November when he was non-tendered by the club. He hit .236/.297/.399 with a career-high 13 home runs and 42 RBI in 104 games last season.

Yankees Trade for Juan Soto

The New York Yankees announced they acquired Juan Soto and Trent Grisham in a trade with the San Diego Padres.

San Diego will receive RHP Michael King, C Kyle Higashioka, RHP Jhony Brito, RHP Randy Vásquez and RHP Drew Thorpe.

Soto is a three-time All-Star who hit .275 with 35 home runs and 109 RBI in 2023.

Eduardo Rodríguez Signs with Diamondbacks

New York sent pitchers Richard Fitts, Greg Weissert and Nicholas Judice to Boston in exchange for the 27-year-old.
