DeMar DeRozan Trade Rumors: Knicks, Heat Preferred Landing Spots for Bulls Star

Adam Wells

Even though the Los Angeles Lakers might have eyes for DeMar DeRozan, the six-time All-Star doesn't necessarily feel the same way if he ends up being moved by the Chicago Bulls.

Per The Athletic's Sam Amick, the Miami Heat and New York Knicks "are known to be preferable to DeRozan if he winds up getting moved."

Jovan Buha of The Athletic said Wednesday on the Hoops Tonight podcast the Lakers would be more interested in DeRozan or Alex Caruso than Zach LaVine if they were to make a trade with Chicago.

While it remains to be seen if the Bulls will move on from LaVine, Amick noted DeRozan is considered "very likely" to be dealt before the trade deadline.

It makes sense that DeRozan would be the one player Chicago may not hesitate to move. He's 34 years old and in the final season of his contract with a $28.6 million salary.

The Bulls are fighting to stay out of the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. They have a 6-14 record, just 3.5 games ahead of the Detroit Pistons for the worst record in the NBA.

The Heat and Knicks will likely be trying to make at least one big move before the trade deadline. Both teams are being carried by excellent defenses and could use scoring help.

Miami ranks 13th in offensive rating and 20th in points per game. New York is 11th in offensive rating, but just 26th in points per game with the third-worst field-goal percentage in the league.

The Knicks currently have a half-game lead over the Heat for the No. 5 spot in the Eastern Conference.

After a slow start to the season, DeRozan has started to produce at his normal levels recently. He's averaging 21.2 points on 47.7 percent shooting and 4.9 assists per game in his last seven starts.
