Jets Rumors: Aaron Rodgers 'Most Likely' to Return from Injury Week 16 vs. Commanders

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is reportedly targeting Week 16's game against the Washington Commanders for his return from a torn Achilles.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that date has been lightly circled as a target, but Rodgers will only return if the Jets are still in the playoff hunt. New York enters Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills at 4-5 and will need a strong month for Rodgers' return to make sense.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports added the quarterback is hopeful he can return to practice as early as Dec. 2:

According to Glazer, Rodgers sent the Jets a video of himself working out that "kind of blew their minds."

Earlier this week, Jets coach Robert Saleh said he believes Rodgers can make the never-before-seen comeback.

"Aaron's a big boy, a grown man, and no one's going to know Aaron's body like Aaron knows his body," Saleh told reporters Wednesday. "And if he feels after all the doctors clear him—I'm sure there's a million of them, I have no idea—but if Aaron says he wants to play, he's going to play."

Rodgers tore. his Achilles in Week 1's win over the Bills, attempting just one pass before going down with what most assumed was a season-ending injury. Achilles injuries are considered among the most devastating in all of sports, with essentially every player on record missing the remainder of the season in which they suffered the injury. Many miss time into the following season.

Rodgers' attempted comeback would be a little over three months out from his injury—cutting recovery time in half from even the most optimistic estimates.

"No, there's no set date," Rodgers said Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show. "It could change. If I have a great week this week and next week, that could be accelerated. If we are not in it in three or four weeks, that could, you know, that could take it a different way. ... I expect us to be in it, and I expect to come back."

The Jets have three straight home games following Sunday's visit to Buffalo, which will give them an opportunity to evaluate how much sense it makes for Rodgers to come back.

Given the struggles of the offense in recent weeks, smart money is on the Jets falling out of playoff contention and Rodgers' next snap as a Jet coming Week 1 of next season. That said, Rodgers' competitive spirit may win out if there's even a fractional chance he can take New York to the postseason.
