Patriots Rumors: Robert Kraft 'Has Grown Frustrated' Over Post-Tom Brady Struggles

Adam Wells

The ongoing struggles for the New England Patriots since Tom Brady left after the 2019 season are wearing on owner Robert Kraft.

Per The Athletic's Jeff Howe, Kraft "has grown frustrated, if not downright angry" about the franchise's lack of success in recent years.

The frustration doesn't seem limited only to Kraft. Howe noted the Patriots defense "has grown increasingly frustrated" with an offense that currently ranks last in the NFL with 11.0 points per game through five weeks.

The Patriots are off to their worst start with Bill Belichick as head coach. They have lost four of their first five games and are tied with the Denver Broncos for the worst record in the AFC.

New England's 38-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 was the worst loss of the Belichick era by point differential. It was followed up by a 34-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

Quarterback Mac Jones, the team's first-round draft pick in 2021, has been benched in the second half of both losses. Since throwing for 316 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, he's racked up 692 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions in the past four games combined.

The Patriots haven't scored more than 20 points in a game this season. Dating back to last season, they haven't put up more than 23 points in a game since a Week 15 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Since Brady left after the 2019 season, the Patriots have a 26-29 record with one playoff appearance. Their minus-76 point differential this season is the second-worst in the NFL (New York Giants, minus-91).

There has been some thought that Belichick is still coaching because he wants to surpass Don Shula's all-time wins record. The 70-year-old has 330 career wins in the regular season and playoffs, 17 behind Shula's mark of 347.

If things broke right in New England, Belichick could have surpassed that total at some point during the 2024 season.

Instead, it may not be certain that Belichick makes it to next year with the Patriots if things keep spiraling the way they have with eight losses in their last 11 games dating back to Week 12 last season.
