Jalen Ramsey Only Wanted to Be Traded to Dolphins from Rams amid Rumors

When the Los Angeles Rams made Jalen Ramsey available for trade this winter, the veteran cornerback's agent, David Mulugheta, floated the Miami Dolphins to him as a possible destination.

Ramsey told Mulugheta that Miami was a place he'd be willing to go, but his feelings about playing for the Dolphins grew to the point that going to South Florida was the only place he wanted to land, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

"I'm not going anywhere but there," Ramsey told Mulugheta. "So make sure that's where I end up."

Breer added that Ramsey "wanted to go to a place where he could win and where he'd fit football-wise." He also said that the six-time Pro Bowler is friends with several Miami players, including Jevon Holland, Christian Wilkins and Raekwon Davis, which also made the Dolphins desirable.

Additionally, Ramsey, who played his college football at Florida State, likes the warmer weather, according to Breer, as do his daughters.

Everything about heading to South Florida just appeared to make sense for Ramsey and his family.

Initially, the Rams weren't sure whether they were going to trade Ramsey despite getting calls about his availability, per ESPN's Sarah Barshop.

L.A. ended up trading Ramsey to the Dolphins in exchange for tight end Hunter Long and a 2023 third-round pick. The deal became official March 15.

That's not much for a star cornerback, but both teams had to take what they could get. L.A. needed to clear cap space, and the Dolphins weren't going to balk at the opportunity to acquire a star player to pair alongside Xavien Howard.

Ramsey spent the last three-and-a-half seasons with the Rams after coming over in a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2019 season. He earned two first-team All-Pro selections and four Pro Bowl nods while in L.A.

The 28-year-old is still competing at a high level and should be a solid addition to Miami's secondary. In 17 games last season, he posted four interceptions, 18 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two sacks and 88 tackles.

With the AFC East projected to be highly competitive in 2023 with the expected addition of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, the acquisition of Ramsey only made sense for the Fins, who are looking to reach the playoffs for the second straight season.
