Former Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson has scouts salivating at his potential ahead of the NFL draft, and some believe his skills are reminiscent of a pair of former first-round picks.

"This quote from an NFL executive sticks with me: 'He's Cam Newton and Justin Fields combined,'" ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Thursday. "As far as the ability, he has that."

Newton and Fields are both known for their skills as passers and runners, so the comparison of Richardson to them bodes well for his career outlook.

Fowler noted that he couldn't "remember a bigger variance league-wide on a feeling about a quarterback" than Richardson, as he's heard draft grades ranging from a first-round talent to a fourth-round prospect. It's widely believed that he will be best served sitting behind a veteran for the start of his NFL career so he can have time to develop before being thrust into action, per Fowler.

Richardson entered the draft after a junior season with the Gators that saw him throw for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions while adding 654 rushing yards and nine more scores. His dual-threat ability gives him the tools to be successful in today's NFL.

B/R's NFL scouting department ranks Richardson as the 19th overall prospect in this year's draft class in the most recent big board. His unique skillset makes him an attractive player for teams in need of a quarterback of the future.

According to his scouting report, "Richardson's rare bundle of traits are worth a risky bet. Players with his build, athletic profile, arm strength and advanced pocket management are hard to find."
