Lakers' LeBron James Reflects on Fame, NBA Career: 'I Wish I Could Do Normal Things'

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is one of the undisputed greatest professional athletes of all time.

While the four-time NBA champion loves the life he has built for himself as one of the NBA's premier talents—if not the premier talent—sometimes he wishes he could live a normal life away from the bright lights of Hollywood and beyond.

"I don't want to say it ever becomes too much, but there are times when I wish I could do normal things," James said Thursday, according to Tania Ganguli of the New York Times.

James added:

"I wish I could just walk outside. I wish I could just, like, walk into a movie theater and sit down and go to the concession stand and get popcorn. I wish I could just go to an amusement park just like regular people. I wish I could go to Target sometimes and walk into Starbucks and have my name on the cup just like regular people."

"I'm not sitting here complaining about it, of course not," said James. "But it can be challenging at times."

James, like many professional athletes, will get asked for autographs and photos no matter where he goes. Sure, that comes with the job of being one of the greatest basketball players the world has ever seen, but he is also entitled to things like everyone else, such as his privacy.

The 38-year-old has been the center of attention for the Lakers this season as they try to climb their way out of the depths of the Western Conference standings. With the pressure he likely feels to lead one of the most historic franchises in the NBA, it can get exhausting.

Still, James will only continue to be the center of attention as long as he's in the NBA. He will be even after his playing days are over. When someone is that good at what they do, that's what comes with the territory.
