UFC Fight Night 218: Lewis vs. Spivac Odds, Schedule, Predictions

Alex Ballentine

UFC Fight Night 218 will go down in Las Vegas with a heavyweight slugfest between Derrick Lewis and Serghei Spivac as the main event and a later-than-usual time slot in the United States.

The card was originally scheduled to take place in South Korea, but the promotion decided against that and opted to host it at the Apex Facility in Las Vegas instead. But it did keep the original start time, and the card still features plenty of talent from Asian countries.

That does not include the main event, though, which will see Spivac attempt to pick up the biggest win of his career against the always-dangerous Lewis.

The bout was originally scheduled for the UFC Fight Night 215 card in November, but the bout was canceled while the event was in progress due to Lewis contracting COVID-19.

The two will now get to finally meet in the cage, and one will make a statement that should move them up the heavyweight rankings.

Here's the complete schedule, the latest odds and a look at the biggest fights on the card.

Lewis vs. Spivac

Derrick Lewis is a tricky opponent. Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC

Serghei Spivac is in a high-risk, high-reward situation on Saturday night. On one hand, this is an opportunity to notch the best win of his career; on the other, it's not the easiest matchup.

Derrick Lewis is a tough out for pretty much everyone in the division. He isn't the most technically sound fighter, but he's always a bit better than he gets credit for and hits like a Mack truck.

The Black Beast can be losing a fight the entire time just before the moment he wins it. There are times when he looks downright disinterested before suddenly smashing his opponent with a well-timed uppercut or hook.

Spivac has the tools to beat the 37-year-old, though. He's big, strong and has enough grappling chops to wear him down and win the bout in the later rounds.

However, the Moldovan, 28, is coming off two knockout wins that could actually work against him in this matchup. He knocked out Greg Hardy and Augusto Sakai in his last two bouts but Lewis is much more dangerous than both.

If Spivac feels he's up to a slugfest with Lewis, he's setting himself up for an early upset.

Prediction: Lewis via first-round TKO

Jung vs. Clark

Da Un Jung is one of the most prominent of the South Koreans on the card. He's missing out on the opportunity to fight in front of his home country, but he's still getting an opportunity to get his career back on track.

The 29-year-old started his UFC career with a 4-0-1 record that included a knockout win over Kennedy Nzechukwu but had his momentum stopped by Dustin Jacoby. He flattened him in just over three minutes in July.

Now, he'll face Devin Clark, who is just 1-3 in his last four fights. While Jung might be coming off a loss, he's been a much better fighter lately.

Clark, 32, is a former middleweight, but his lone win in that four-fight stretch came at heavyweight where he knocked out William Knight.

Despite his recent foray into the bigger division, he won't really have a size advantage over Jung. Before coming to the UFC the South Korean had some experience of his own at heavyweight and has the longer frame at 6'4".

This one could feature action all over the place as neither guy is afraid to shoot for takedowns or slug it out.

Expect a bit of everything, but Jung should have the overall advantage and be looking for the finish.

Prediction: Jung via second-round TKO

Choi vs. Nelson

One of the more anticipated storylines of the card is the return of "The Korean Superboy" Dooho Choi. While his clash with Kyle Nelson would have been more fun if the card was in South Korea, it still makes for a fun fight.

Choi, 31, hasn't fought in three years and will look to put a three-fight losing streak to rest upon his return. He tore through his first three UFC opponents, beating each by first-round knockout to take his career record to 14-1.

However, when he was tasked with stepping up a level in competition, things didn't go his way. He lost a unanimous decision to Cub Swanson before getting finished by Jeremy Stephens and Charles Jourdain.

All three of the losses earned Fight of the Night honors. So whether Choi wins or loses, there's a good chance it's going to an entertaining contest.

Meanwhile, Nelson will be looking to turn things around in his own right. The 31-year-old Canadian is coming off back-to-back losses to Billy Quarantillo and Jai Herbert but has also dropped four of his last five.

The fact that two of those four losses have come by way of knockout is a bit concerning. Choi has the power and knows how to deliver it. His troubles have come when someone can withstand his punching power.

That's not Nelson.

Prediction: Choi via first-round TKO
