Portland Trail Blazers star Jerami Grant confirmed the team made a four-year, $112 million max contract offer this season.

The 6'8" forward told The Athletic's Jason Quick he might wait until the summer to seriously consider his future.

"I'm kind of focused on the season at hand right now," he said. "Probably will wait until after the season and talk to (GM) Joe (Cronin). Everything is good. I like it here. Really enjoying it. So, yeah … we will discuss it when it's time."

Even if he's loving life in Portland, Grant is strongly incentivized to wait before agreeing to his next contract.

The $112 million the Blazers put on the table is the most they can present right now under the collective bargaining agreement. Quick noted their highest offer for Grant climbs to $233 million over five years starting July 1. Any other franchise could go up to $174 million over four years.

Barring a blistering finish to the 2022-23 season, a full max contract is probably unlikely for Grant, but he might be able to eclipse the money Portland currently has put on the table. Through 48 games, he's averaging 21.3 points and 4.3 rebounds and shooting 42.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Since the 2014 second-round pick is going to be an unrestricted free agent, perhaps the Blazers would be tempted to move him if they sense his demands will exceed what they believe he's worth. ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported Monday that opposing teams "are going to sniff there" with regard to a trade before the Feb. 9 deadline.

But Action Network's Matt Moore reported Sunday that Grant is one of three players along with Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons who are thought to be untouchable for Portland.

Maybe the Blazers wind up overpaying Grant, but getting everything in place to re-sign him in the offseason is a better choice than trading him now.
