Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia Fight Announced for Early 2023 in Las Vegas

Gervonta Davis took to Instagram on Thursday to announce that he will be fighting Ryan Garcia next year.

According to Michael Benson of TalkSport, Davis said it is a "done deal" that the fight will occur in Las Vegas early next year:

ESPN's Mike Coppinger reported the fight will take place on April 23 and noted each fighter may take a fight before they meet head-to-head.

Both Davis and Garcia are undefeated and under the age of 30, making a fight between them one of the biggest possible bouts in the lightweight division.

The 28-year-old Davis is the reigning WBA (Regular) lightweight champion, having beaten Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019 to become champion.

Since then, Davis has retained against Léo Santa Cruz, Isaac Cruz and Rolando Romero, in addition to beating Mario Barrios for the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title.

Tank is a perfect 27-0 with 25 wins by way of knockout, and he is coming off a convincing sixth-round technical knockout of Romero in May.

Garcia, 24, is 23-0 in his professional career, scoring 19 knockout victories. His most significant win came in January 2021 when he defeated Luke Campbell for the vacant WBC interim lightweight title.

He was supposed to defend the interim title against Javier Fortuna, but Garcia instead opted to take a break to focus on his mental health and was forced to vacate the title.

Garcia was then scheduled to challenge Joseph Diaz for the interim title after Diaz beat Fortuna, but that bout was called off as well after Garcia suffered a hand injury.

More than one year after his win over Campbell, Garcia got back in the ring in April and scored a unanimous-decision victory over Emmanuel Tagoe. Just three months later, Garcia beat Fortuna by sixth-round TKO.

Neither Davis nor Garcia have been truly challenged on many occasions, as the only relatively close fight for either of them was Garcia's majority-decision win over Carlos Morales in 2018.

In a time when the possibility of a superfight is scarce in boxing, Davis vs. Garcia has the potential to be a Fight of the Year contender in 2023 and could be one of boxing's biggest pay-per-view events in recent memory.
