WWE Botching Women's Tag Division, Babyface Seth Rollins, More Raw Takes

Kevin Berge

In one of the best episodes of WWE Raw in recent months, the company put on a great go-home show for Crown Jewel while celebrating Halloween in a special October 31 edition.

Seth Rollins continued to embrace the crowd reaction for him while defeating Austin Theory in a memorable match.

Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley kept their fight going, brawling until Triple H had to tell them to stop or he would cancel their Crown Jewel match.

Johnny Gargano revealed The Miz had been paying Dexter Lumis to stalk him in order to gain attention for himself but then stopped paying his bills. This explanation finally set a proper stage for the first true match between The A-Lister and The Tortured Artist.

The main event ended in a shock result as Alexa Bliss and Asuka dethroned Damage CTRL as WWE women's tag team champions.

These moments set the stage for what will make Crown Jewel special and continue to push Raw forward.

Too Soon to Take Women's Tag Titles Off Damage CTRL

Damage CTRL have struggled to live up to the excitement built around Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai's return at SummerSlam, but winning the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships did give the group something to hold over the company.

It was also a chance to raise the standing of the women's tag team division with two guaranteed quality performers challenging the division to step up.

Instead, after just 49 days, Sky and Kai lost the gold to the first women to truly challenge them: Asuka and Alexa Bliss.

While the new titleholders are capable champions, the division will not grow with them holding the gold. It didn't with The Goddess and Nikki Cross as champs nor The Empress of Tomorrow and Kairi Sane.

They are just another makeshift alliance, brought together because no one else was available. And no other teams have been established in the last two months to tell future interesting stories.

At this point, the most likely team to dethrone the champions are Damage CTRL, meaning the game of hot potato in the division continues with no end in sight.

Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley Should Not End at Crown Jewel

Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar have been working hard to sell the second match in their rivalry, and it's working.

This is a simple and memorable rivalry that is outshining stories WWE has put far more work into. Fans just want to see the big men fight.

This is an angle that can last beyond Crown Jewel, though. And considering The Beast Incarnate's infrequent WWE schedule, a third match could be saved for the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 39.

Wherever it happens, this rivalry clearly works. As long as the second contest lives up to the expectations missed in the first, this feud should be one of the best parts of WWE for several months to come.

Seth Rollins Ready for Babyface Run For the Ages

Seth Rollins may have quietly turned babyface this week on Raw as the crowd passionately cheered him on against Austin Theory, one of WWE's most hated heels.

While it's far from official, it's clear that fans want it and WWE is beginning to accept that.

Rollins struggled as a face in his first major run, even after defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35. He was simply too ordinary in a way he hasn't been lately.

The 36-year-old is exciting and flamboyant, and he enjoys mind games no matter his opponent. If he keeps that edge, he can become the top face on Raw without issue.

This does leave Mustafa Ali in an awkward position as he was prepared to challenge The Visionary as the underdog face, but that was unavoidable. The crowd last week was behind Rollins far more than Ali.

It will be more interesting for Ali to earn the former world champion's respect while Rollins starts to accept the respect of the fans.

The Miz-Dexter Lumis Feud Gets Much-Needed Juice

Johnny Gargano has finally revealed the hook in the story of The Miz and Dexter Lumis: The A-Lister has apparently been manipulating The Tortured Artist to stay popular.

While WWE has a tendency to retcon the past for a big surprise, this was a well-done twist that makes sense of their rivalry. It also finally sets things in motion.

It is now much easier to sympathize with Lumis, who simply wants the money he is owed. And The A-Lister now needs to fight the former NXT star one-on-one in the ring.

With that match, Lumis can be established as a serious competitor and Miz can get his comeuppance. This story can progress by how the two men act rather than relying on a mystery that took too long to be solved.
