Roman Reigns' Successor Has Become Clear, Rescuing AEW All Out Card, More Quick Takes

After almost two years, Roman Reigns' days as undisputed WWE universal champion may finally be numbered.

Friday's SmackDown saw Drew McIntyre built up in a major way through a pair of excellent video packages chronicling his journey to the top and the brutal beatdown he endured at the hands of The Bloodline.

If there was ever a perfect time to crown Reigns' successor as champ, it would be at Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, where the reaction to a McIntyre win would be thunderous.

Adding to the excitement this coming weekend will be AEW All Out, a pay-per-view currently without a confirmed main event.

Regardless of what goes down with CM Punk and Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship, the strong undercard alone will be worth watching.

This installment of Quick Takes will tackle why All Out is virtually guaranteed to deliver, immediate booking possibilities for Johnny Gargano on Raw, why Daniel Garcia sticking with the Jericho Appreciation Society would be a mistake, and more.

Booking Johnny Gargano's First Few Months on Raw

Johnny Gargano's name had been tossed around quite a bit by fans as far as who could be next to resurface in WWE, and sure enough, he returned in unexpected fashion last Monday on Raw.

As heartfelt of a promo as he cut, the best part of the segment was the confirmation that he'll be feuding with Theory for the foreseeable future. Anyone just arriving on a new show needs to have direction from the get-go, otherwise they'll get lost in the shuffle a lot quicker.

A rivalry between Gargano and Theory is perfectly logical given their history in NXT and it keeps both men busy. Regardless of who emerges on the winning end, Johnny Wrestling reuniting with Ciampa in some way would be brilliant, especially if it were to tie into The Blackheart's ongoing storyline with The Miz.

A DIY reunion would be ideal for sometime within the next year, as you never know if the WWE draft will put them on separate shows. That time can also help establish him with the WWE Universe, making an eventual run at the United States title mean that much more.

Putting Gargano in that title picture around WrestleMania 39 season isn't too much of a stretch depending on how well he gets over with the fans. Main event status is still some way off, but with Triple H at the creative helm, anything is possible.

Daniel Garcia Remaining Heel Would Waste His Momentum

Anything to do with Jericho Appreciation Society has been hit or miss so far, but it's difficult to miss whenever Bryan Danielson is factored into the equation.

His mini-feud with Daniel Garcia spawned two terrific matches, but the follow-up has been the most interesting element. They're telling the simple story of Danielson wanting to him into Blackpool Combat Club while Chris Jericho is adamant about keeping him in his ranks.

The faction warfare tends to get old in All Elite Wrestling after awhile, but this storyline has significant substance that could go either way. Garcia has greatly benefited from working with Danielson, but continuing to serve as a background player in JAS would do him no favors.

Garcia has always been recognized as a super-skilled wrestler, but his popularity has never been greater. To waste that by having him stick with Jericho's group beyond All Out would be a waste of his momentum.

Even if it wasn't the original plan, Tony Khan should consider pulling an audible and turning Garcia into a full-fledged face. He may be ready to embrace that role if he continues trending in the right direction.

All Out Promises to Deliver Despite Main Event Uncertainty

There is plenty of uncertainty surrounding the top of the card at the moment in AEW, and the timing couldn't be more bizarre with All Out approaching this Sunday.

On one hand, it's thrilling not knowing exactly where we're headed with Jon Moxley vs. CM Punk for the AEW World Championship. A rematch is looking likely, but even then, there's no telling how it's going to end and if a character change is coming for one of them in Chicago.

The build to that bout has arguably left a lot to be desired, but the rest of the card will ensure the pay-per-view is still a strong show.

Jungle Boy vs. Christian Cage and Ricky Starks vs. Powerhouse Hobbs have been great grudge feuds in recent months, and both bouts have the potential to steal the show. The four-way for the AEW Women's World Championship came together on a whim, but given the talent involved, it should be a highly entertaining affair.

Meanwhile, Jade Cargill vs. Athena has progressed nicely much like Bryan Danielson vs. Chris Jericho. The three tag team matches on the show will no doubt deliver as well.

It's rare for an AEW PPV to underwhelm, so unless the main event totally falls flat, it will be nearly impossible for All Out to be anything less than a top-notch event based on what's on tap.

Switching Up Stagnant Formula Breathes New Life into WWE TV

The sheer predictability of Raw and SmackDown hindered viewers' interest for many years. Not only from an in-ring standpoint but also with the way things would be presented and formatted.

That stagnant formula made the shows a chore to sit through. Already, though, Triple H has done a commendable job of switching things up on both brands and giving fans more of an incentive to tune in.

That's been especially evident on Raw recently with everything involving Dexter Lumis. In storyline, he hasn't been rehired, so having all of his actions play out in the background automatically adds intrigue and leaves you wondering what more could go down and when.

SmackDown lately has had a bit of that as well with the "suspended" Ronda Rousey showing up out of nowhere, a match starting the show and the creation of genuine cliffhangers.

The feeling that anything can happen is important in enticing viewers to keep coming back, and the ratings have largely reflected that in the last month. WWE has long been missing the element of anticipation and excitement, so getting that back has been a welcome change.

Drew McIntyre Set Up Perfectly to Defeat Roman Reigns

Since Roman Reigns returned and became universal champion two years ago, it has always been a question of who will be the one to ultimately dethrone him. The answer has never been clearer than it is right now: Drew McIntyre.

Look no further than the star treatment he received on Friday's SmackDown. There were two video packages that played for him at different points in the program highlighting his journey so far and why he's ready for this huge opportunity.

The Bloodline brutally beating him down to close the show sent a strong message that the Scot could well be walking out of Clash at the Castle as the new undisputed WWE universal champion.

It didn't make as much sense six months ago for McIntyre to be the one to end Reigns' historic run, but everything about the buildup to Clash at the Castle's main event has been exceptional.

That's not to mention how The Scottish Warrior has several ready-made challengers coming out of the pay-per-view. Bobby Lashley and Kevin Owens lead the list, but many more are waiting in the wings for a shot as well.

McIntyre is the right person at the right person to take the title. A successful Reigns defense wouldn't do irreversible damage to the Scot, but the reaction if he wins in Cardiff will make it feel like the biggest deal possible.
