Ranking the Most Likely Heel and Face Turns at WWE SummerSlam 2022

Kevin Berge

SummerSlam has always been one of the biggest nights of the year for WWE and sports entertainment, with the biggest stars facing off for major stakes in every match.

The 2022 iteration is no different with several huge bouts that include Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar, Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch, Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey, and Logan Paul vs. The Miz.

The Biggest Party of the Summer needs to include moments that will live in the memory of the WWE Universe. Straightforward results will not be enough.

One of the best ways to sell SummerSlam is with major heel and face turns. Could we see certain top stars change course while affecting the results of Saturday's packed card?

The following are the most likely heel and face turns to come at WWE SummerSlam 2022.

Heel: Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has always been better in WWE as a heel. At her peak, she leaned into an unlikable persona, calling out the crowd that refused to respect her.

Since returning at the Royal Rumble in January, she has struggled to connect with fans, and most expect her to turn heel soon. Liv Morgan is very popular at the moment and would be a good name to turn against.

While The Baddest Woman on the Planet showed Morgan respect after her initial cash-in for the SmackDown Women's Championship, it would make sense for her to get more aggravated if the titleholder beats her again.

Morgan vs. Rousey is already going to be a match in which the former UFC star is booed. WWE can commit to the best story and improve the SmackDown women's division with a direct heel turn by the end.

Heel: Dominik Mysterio

The Judgment Day have focused on Dominik Mysterio as a young star with untapped potential. While he hasn't turned against father Rey yet, SummerSlam could be the time to do it.

The Mysterios have struggled to stay in the spotlight recently. They have been largely forgotten in the tag team division until their rivalry with Finn Balor and Co. began.

The Judgment Day need more members. It is more of a tag team at this point over a full group, but that can change with one more addition. Balor is the main event star while Damian Priest can take Dominik under his wing as a tag team.

It is unclear if WWE will take this route with Dominik. Rey Mysterio has said he never wants to wrestle against his son, but a turn would guarantee a singles match between them.

Still, the story would bring The Mysterios fully back into the spotlight after all the teasing, and Rey wants the best for his child.

Heel: Angelo Dawkins

Other than The New Day, no tag team lasts forever, and WWE has begun teasing the breakup of The Street Profits.

Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford worked their match with The Usos at Money in the Bank like it was their last, but it was too good not to have one more at SummerSlam.

If the team is ready to split, it could be set up with a heel turn. Ford is a popular performer who will shine on his own, while Dawkins is also immensely talented but does not have the same star power.

Dawkins turning on Ford would make a major impact. It could even line up with the appearance of Jeff Jarrett as the special guest referee. The WWE Hall of Famer could become Dawkins' heel manager if there are plans to use him further.

This is more speculation than anything, but WWE has included a few memorable hints about the Profits breaking up. It will mean more if it happens at SummerSlam, though.

Face: Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns is the biggest star in WWE. He has fully established himself as a conniving heel who will do anything to win. While this has worked successfully to date, he has lost momentum recently.

The Tribal Chief needs to make a change, and the moment has been set for a surprise face turn. While Reigns is fighting Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, it is Theory who could be the one who pushes him into a fan-favorite role.

With WWE's recent booking, A-Town is more widely hated by fans than Reigns. If the two clash, The Head of the Table will be cheered. If Theory cashed-in on him after successfully defeating Lesnar, it would be widely booed.

Reigns vs. Theory might not sound like the most exciting rivalry, but It would improve considerably if WWE used it to finally make their top star a babyface again.
