Updated MLB Farm System Rankings After 2022 MLB Draft

Joel Reuter

With the 2022 MLB draft officially in the books, it's time for an updated look at how all 30 MLB farm systems stack up.

The following factors helped determine the placement of players and teams:

A tier system was used to help differentiate the varying levels of individual talent:

Teams were initially ranked based on the number of Tier 1 and Tier 2 prospects in their systems, and then the rankings were tweaked from there. Bold names indicate a player was a 2022 draft pick.

Note: A player must not have passed the rookie-eligibility limits (130 at-bats, 50 innings pitched, 45 days on an active roster prior to Sept. 1) to be included in these rankings.

30. Los Angeles Angels

Ky Bush (Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. RHP Sam Bachman (Tier 2)
2. LHP Ky Bush (Tier 2)
3. SS Zach Neto (Tier 2)
4. C Edgar Quero (Tier 3)
5. 2B/SS Jeremiah Jackson (Tier 3)
6. SS Denzer Guzman (Tier 3)
7. OF Jordyn Adams (Tier 3)
8. SS Kyren Paris (Tier 3)
9. RHP Landon Marceaux (Tier 3)
10. IF Werner Blakely (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Futures Game selection Ky Bush is one to watch in the Angels system. The 2021 second-round pick has a 3.34 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 67 strikeouts in 67.1 innings at Double-A, and he's still refining his secondary stuff.

Shortstop Zach Neto hit .403/.500/.751 with 40 doubles, 27 home runs and 108 RBI in 100 games during his three seasons at Campbell University. The No. 13 overall pick in this year's draft could quickly make the jump to Tier 1 with a strong start to his pro career.

29. Chicago White Sox

Oscar Colas (Daniel Shirey/MLB Photos via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. SS Colson Montgomery (Tier 1)
2. 3B Bryan Ramos (Tier 2)
3. OF Oscar Colas (Tier 2)
4. SS Jose Rodriguez (Tier 3)
5. RHP Norge Vera (Tier 3)
6. RHP Sean Burke (Tier 3)
7. IF Lenyn Sosa (Tier 3)
8. LHP Noah Schultz (Tier 3)
9. RHP Cristian Mena (Tier 3)
10. OF Yoelqui Cespedes (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Shortstop Colson Montgomery has quickly moved to the top of the White Sox farm system. The No. 22 overall pick in last year's draft is hitting .323/.428/.494 with 23 extra-base hits in 63 games between Single-A and High-A.

The White Sox plucked big 6'9" prep left-hander Noah Schultz from their own backyard, as he played his high school ball about 40 miles from Guaranteed Rate Field. He's a good athlete for his size and already has a plus slider to go along with a projectable frame.

28. Atlanta Braves

Vaughn Grissom (Michael Reaves/Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. SS Vaughn Grissom (Tier 1)
2. LHP Jared Shuster (Tier 2)
3. RHP AJ Smith-Shawver (Tier 2)
4. LHP Kyle Muller (Tier 2)
5. RHP Owen Murphy (Tier 3)
6. RHP JR Ritchie (Tier 3)

7. RHP Freddy Tarnok (Tier 3)
8. RHP Bryce Elder (Tier 3)
9. RHP Cole Phillips (Tier 3)
10. RHP Royber Salinas (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

One of the breakout prospects of the 2022 season, shortstop Vaughn Grissom is hitting .324/.411/.500 with 17 doubles, 12 home runs, 60 RBI and 23 steals in 80 games between High-A and Double-A. The 21-year-old was an 11th-round pick in 2019.

The Braves were aggressive in targeting high-ceiling high school arms, taking Owen Murphy (No. 20 overall), JR Ritchie (No. 35 overall) and Cole Phillips (No. 57 overall) to restock a farm system that has churned out pitching talent in recent years.

27. Houston Astros

Hunter Brown (Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. RHP Hunter Brown (Tier 1)
2. OF Pedro Leon (Tier 2)
3. C Yainer Diaz, (Tier 2)
4. C Korey Lee (Tier 2)
5. OF Drew Gilbert (Tier 2)
6. IF Enmanuel Valdez (Tier 3)
7. OF Jacob Melton (Tier 3)
8. RHP Chayce McDermott (Tier 3)
9. OF Justin Dirden (Tier 3)
10. RHP Spencer Arrighetti (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Right-hander Hunter Brown is rapidly becoming one of baseball's best pitching prospects. The 23-year-old has a 2.38 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 97 strikeouts in 72.0 innings at Triple-A, and his fastball, curveball and slider all grade out as plus pitches.

Outfielders Drew Gilbert (No. 28 overall) and Jacob Melton (No. 64 overall) were two of the breakout performers of the 2022 college baseball season. They could move quickly through the minors if they continue on their current trajectory.

26. Washington Nationals

Cade Cavalli (Scott W. Grau/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. OF Elijah Green (Tier 1)
2. SS Brady House (Tier 1)
3. RHP Cade Cavalli (Tier 1)
4. OF Cristhian Vaquero (Tier 2)
5. OF Jeremy De La Rosa (Tier 2)
6. SS Armando Cruz (Tier 3)
7. RHP Cole Henry (Tier 3)
8. SS Yasel Antuna (Tier 3)
9. LHP Jake Bennett (Tier 3)
10. LHP Mitchell Parker (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

After a rocky start to the 2022 season, Cade Cavalli has a 2.11 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 42.2 innings over his last eight starts at Triple-A.

The Nationals landed perhaps the highest-ceiling prospect in the entire 2022 draft in Elijah Green at No. 5 overall. He has a rare mix of elite power and elite speed, though he'll need to cut down on his swing-and-miss to fully realize his potential.

25. Philadelphia Phillies

Logan O'Hoppe (Rob Tringali/MLB Photos via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. RHP Andrew Painter (Tier 1)
2. RHP Mick Abel (Tier 1)
3. C Logan O'Hoppe (Tier 1)
4. OF Justin Crawford (Tier 2)
5. RHP Griff McGarry (Tier 2)
6. OF Johan Rojas (Tier 3)
7. RHP Ben Brown (Tier 3)
8. OF Ethan Wilson (Tier 3)
9. LHP Erik Miller (Tier 3)
10. 2B Hao Yu Lee (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Catcher Logan O'Hoppe is a new addition to Tier 1 after hitting .283/.401/.522 with 11 doubles, 14 home runs and 40 RBI in 66 games at Double-A. Will he wind up being a trade chip with J.T. Realmuto signed through the 2025 season?

The son of former MLB All-Star Carl Crawford, 2022 first-round pick Justin Crawford has great wheels, a solid glove in center field and a quality hit tool with the potential for more offensively as he grows into his 6'3", 175-pound frame.

24. Toronto Blue Jays

Ricky Tiedemann (Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. C Gabriel Moreno (Tier 1)
2. LHP Ricky Tiedemann (Tier 1)
3. SS/3B Orelvis Martinez (Tier 1)
4. SS/3B Jordan Groshans (Tier 2)
5. LHP Brandon Barriera (Tier 2)
6. 3B Tucker Toman (Tier 3)
7. RHP Sem Robberse (Tier 3)
8. RHP Yosver Zulueta (Tier 3)
9. OF Gabriel Martinez (Tier 3)
10. SS Addison Barger (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Left-hander Ricky Tiedemann has raised his stock as much as any prospect in baseball this year after he was chosen in the third round of the 2021 draft. The 19-year-old has a 2.13 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 103 strikeouts in 67.2 innings between Single-A and High-A in his pro debut.

The Blue Jays were linked to switch-hitting third baseman Tucker Toman throughout the predraft process, and they wound up getting him in the third round after taking well-rounded prep lefty Brandon Barriera with their first pick.

23. Arizona Diamondbacks

Jordan Lawlar (AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill)

Top 10 Prospects

1. SS Jordan Lawlar (Tier 1)
2. OF Druw Jones (Tier 1)
3. OF Corbin Carroll (Tier 1)
4. RHP Brandon Pfaadt (Tier 2)
5. 3B Deyvison De Los Santos (Tier 2)
6. LHP Blake Walston (Tier 3)
7. RHP Drey Jameson (Tier 3)
8. RHP Ryne Nelson (Tier 3)
9. 3B A.J. Vukovich (Tier 3)
10. RHP Landon Sims (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Shortstop Jordan Lawlar, outfielder Corbin Carroll and 2022 first-round pick Druw Jones will all rank among the top 20 prospects in baseball when we release our updated Top 100 list next week, so don't read too much into Carroll being No. 3 on this list.

The consensus top prospect in the 2022 draft class, Jones wound up going No. 2 overall to the D-backs. He was given an $8.2 million signing bonus, a new record for a high school player.

22. Kansas City Royals

Vinnie Pasquantino (Mark Cunningham/MLB Photos via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. 1B Vinnie Pasquantino (Tier 1)
2. 1B Nick Pratto (Tier 1)
3. OF Gavin Cross (Tier 1)
4. LHP Asa Lacy (Tier 2)
5. 2B Michael Massey (Tier 2)
6. SS Nick Lofton (Tier 2)
7. LHP Frank Mozzicato (Tier 3)
8. RHP Bed Kudrna (Tier 3)
9. 3B Cayden Wallace (Tier 3)
10. RHP Jonathan Bowlan (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Michael Massey looks like the second baseman of the future in Kansas City. The 24-year-old is hitting .317/.373/.535 with 23 doubles, 15 home runs and 73 RBI in 78 games in the upper levels of the minors.

The Royals selected one of the safest bats in this year's college class when they took Virginia Tech outfielder Gavin Cross with the No. 9 overall pick. A standout with Team USA last summer, he hit .328/.411/.660 with 17 home runs and 12 steals this spring.

21. Milwaukee Brewers

Joey Wiemer (Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. OF Jackson Chourio (Tier 1)
2. OF Joey Wiemer (Tier 1)
3. OF Sal Frelick (Tier 1)
4. SS Brice Turang (Tier 2)
5. LHP Antoine Kelly (Tier 2)
6. LHP Ethan Small (Tier 2)
7. C Jeferson Quero (Tier 3)
8. 2B Tyler Black (Tier 3)
9. SS Eric Brown Jr. (Tier 3)
10. OF Garrett Mitchell (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Outfielder Jackson Chourio will be 18 years old for the entirety of the 2022 season, and he was the youngest player at the Single-A level when the season began, yet he's hitting .321/.370/.591 with 18 doubles, 12 home runs, 45 RBI and 10 steals in 59 games.

Coastal Carolina shortstop Eric Brown Jr. was a bit of a reach in the first round, but he played well in the Cape Cod League last summer before hitting .330/.460/.544 with more walks (39) than strikeouts (28) this spring.

20. Oakland Athletics

Shea Langeliers (Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. C Shea Langeliers (Tier 1)
2. C/1B Tyler Soderstrom (Tier 1)
3. 3B Zack Gelof (Tier 1)
4. C Daniel Susac (Tier 2)
5. SS Max Muncy (Tier 2)
6. RHP Gunnar Hoglund (Tier 2)
7. 1B/3B Jordan Diaz (Tier 3)
8. OF Denzel Clarke (Tier 3)
9. OF Henry Bolte (Tier 3)
10. RHP Jeff Criswell (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Catcher Shea Langeliers hit .272/.364/.505 with 13 doubles, 16 home runs and 44 RBI in 74 games at Triple-A during the first half before winning Futures Game MVP honors during All-Star Weekend. Will he turn Sean Murphy into a trade chip?

He may not have the same offensive upside as fellow first-round pick Kevin Parada, but No. 19 overall pick Daniel Susac was the best all-around catching prospect in the 2022 draft class. An abundance of catching talent is a good problem for the Oakland front office to have.

19. Boston Red Sox

Marcelo Mayer (Billie Weiss/Boston Red Sox/Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. SS Marcelo Mayer (Tier 1)
2. 1B Triston Casas (Tier 1)
3. RHP Brayan Bello (Tier 1)
4. 2B Nick Yorke (Tier 1)
5. RHP Bryan Mata (Tier 2)
6. IF/OF Ceddanne Rafaela (Tier 2)
7. 1B Niko Kavadas (Tier 3)
8. LHP Chris Murphy (Tier 3)
9. 1B/3B Blaze Jordan (Tier 3)
10. OF Roman Anthony (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Curacao native Ceddanne Rafaela is flying up prospect rankings thanks to a .312/.354/.583 line that includes 46 extra-base hits and 19 steals in 74 games between High-A and Double-A. The 21-year-old will need to improve on his 4.5 percent walk rate to take the next step in his development.

The Red Sox reached for high school shortstops Mikey Romero and Cutter Coffey with their first two picks before taking power-hitting prep outfielder Roman Anthony with the No. 79 overall pick as their most promising 2022 selection.

18. Miami Marlins

Eury Perez (AP Photo/Abbie Parr)

Top 10 Prospects

1. RHP Eury Perez (Tier 1)
2. RHP Max Meyer (Tier 1)
3. SS Kahlil Watson (Tier 1)
4. 3B Jacob Berry (Tier 1)
5. LHP Jake Eder (Tier 2)
6. RHP Sixto Sanchez (Tier 2)
7. LHP Dax Fulton (Tier 3)
8. OF JJ Bleday (Tier 3)
9. RHP Jacob Miller (Tier 3)
10. OF Jerar Encarnacion (Tie 3)

Farm System Snapshot

With Grayson Rodriguez (BAL) on the injured list, Eury Perez has a strong case for being the best active pitcher in the minors. The 19-year-old has grown four inches and gained 45 points since signing for $200,000 in 2019, and he is now a towering 6'8", 220-pounder with electric stuff. Already pitching at Double-A, he has a 3.05 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 62 innings.

The Marlins grabbed one of the most MLB-ready bats in the 2022 class in Jacob Berry with the No. 6 overall pick. They then went in the opposite direction with high-ceiling prep pitcher Jacob Miller in the second round. Don't be surprised if Berry is in the majors by 2024.

17. Seattle Mariners

Noelvi Marte (AP Photo/Elaine Thompson)

Top 10 Prospects

1. SS Noelvi Marte (Tier 1)
2. SS Edwin Arroyo (Tier 1)
3. RHP Emerson Hancock (Tier 1)
4. C Harry Ford (Tier 1)
5. RHP Matt Brash (Tier 2)
6. SS Cole Young (Tier 2)
7. OF Gabriel Gonzalez (Tier 3)
8. RHP Taylor Dollard (Tier 3)
9. OF Lazaro Montes (Tier 3)
10. RHP Walter Ford (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

A second-round pick last season, Edwin Arroyo is hitting .318/.387/.516 with 18 doubles, 13 home runs, 62 RBI, 73 runs scored and 20 steals in 24 attempts at Single-A. He is shaping up to be one of the biggest steals of the 2022 draft class, and he doesn't turn 19 until Aug. 25.

With an advanced hit tool and all of the defensive tools necessary to stick at shortstop, Cole Young has a chance to be a bargain in his own right as the No. 21 overall pick in this year's draft. There's no such thing as too much quality middle infield talent.

16. Colorado Rockies

Ezequiel Tovar (David Durochik/Diamond Images via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. SS Ezequiel Tovar (Tier 1)
2. OF Zac Veen (Tier 1)
3. C Drew Romo (Tier 1)

5. OF Benny Montgomery (Tier 2)
6. RHP Gabriel Hughes (Tier 2)
7. 3B Elehuris Montero (Tier 3)
8. OF Sterlin Thompson (Tier 3)

9. OF Jordan Beck (Tier 3)
10. RHP Victor Juarez (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Shortstop Ezequiel Tovar is hitting .318/.386/.546 with 15 doubles, 13 home runs and 17 steals in 66 games as one of the youngest players at the Double-A level. The soon-to-be 21-year-old also has the tools to be an elite defensive shortstop.

The Rockies have a new top pitching prospect after taking Gonzaga ace Gabriel Hughes with the No. 10 overall pick. They also reeled in two of the top college bats in the class in line-drive hitter Sterlin Thompson and slugger Jordan Beck, thanks to three picks inside the top 40.

15. Chicago Cubs

Pete Crow-Armstrong (Rob Tringali/MLB Photos via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. OF Pete Crow-Armstrong (Tier 1)
2. OF Brennen Davis (Tier 1)
3. SS Cristian Hernandez (Tier 2)
4. LHP DJ Herz (Tier 2)
5. LHP Jordan Wicks (Tier 2)
6. OF Kevin Alcantara (Tier 2)
7. LHP Jackson Ferris (Tier 2)
8. OF Owen Caissie (Tier 3)
9. RHP Caleb Killian (Tier 3)
10. RHP Cade Horton (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

The Cubs received outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong from the New York Mets in exchange for Javier Baez at the trade deadline last year, and he has climbed to the top of their farm rankings by hitting .315/.383/.536 with 29 extra-base hits and 19 steals in 63 games. He is also one of the best defensive outfielders in the minors.

After a big reach for College World Series breakout star Cade Horton at No. 7 overall, the Cubs grabbed one of the best high school pitchers in the country in Jackson Ferris in the second round. A below-slot deal with Horton should give them plenty of wiggle room to sign Ferris.

14. Cincinnati Reds

Elly De La Cruz (Rob Tringali/MLB Photos via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. SS Elly De La Cruz (Tier 1)
2. LHP Nick Lodolo (Tier 1)
3. 3B Cam Collier (Tier 1)
4. RHP Connor Phillips (Tier 2)
5. SS Matt McLain (Tier 2)
6. LHP Brandon Williamson (Tier 2)
7. RHP Chase Petty (Tier 2)
8. LHP Andrew Abbott (Tier 3)
9. OF Jay Allen II (Tier 3)
10. RHP Joe Boyle (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

A prospect on the rise when the season began, Elly De La Cruz is now one of the most promising young players in the minors. The 20-year-old is hitting .303/.359/.609 with 20 home runs and 28 steals in 73 games at High-A Daytona.

Cam Collier was originally one of the top prospects in the 2023 draft before reclassifying, getting his GED and enrolling at JUCO powerhouse Chipola College, where he more than held his own as a 17-year-old. He'll take time to develop, but he could be special.

13. San Diego Padres

Robert Hassell III (Rob Leiter/MLB Photos via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. OF Robert Hassell III (Tier 1)
2. C Luis Campusano (Tier 1)
3. OF James Wood (Tier 1)
4. RHP Dylan Lesko (Tier 2)
5. SS Jackson Merrill (Tier 2)
6. OF Esteury Ruiz (Tier 2)
7. LHP Robby Snelling (Tier 2)
8. IF Eguy Rosario (Tier 3)
9. LHP Robert Gasser (Tier 3)
10. RHP Jarlin Susana (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

With a strong 6'7", 240-pound frame, James Wood has always had huge power potential, but an inconsistent senior season at IMG Academy caused him to slip to the second round in the 2021 draft. The 19-year-old is hitting .307/.431/.523 in 216 plate appearances this season with a manageable 19.0 percent strikeout rate and 16.7 percent walk rate.

Right-hander Dylan Lesko was a candidate to go No. 1 overall before undergoing Tommy John surgery in April, while Robby Snelling is a 4-star football recruit who has a better feel for pitching than most two-sport stars and could take off with his full focus on baseball. The Padres got a great draft haul.

12. San Francisco Giants

Marco Luciano (Chris Bernacchi/Diamond Images via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. SS Marco Luciano (Tier 1)
2. LHP Kyle Harrison (Tier 1)
3. RHP Will Bednar (Tier 1)
4. OF Grant McCray (Tier 2)
5. OF Luis Matos (Tier 2)
6. LHP Carson Whisenhunt (Tier 2)
7. RHP Mason Black (Tier 2)
8. LHP/1B Reggie Crawford (Tier 3)
9. SS Aeverson Arteaga (Tier 3)
10. 3B Casey Schmitt (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Outfielder Grant McCray is knocking on the door for a Tier 1 spot after hitting .277/.366/.513 with 17 doubles, eight triples, 14 home runs, 45 RBI and 22 steals through his first 77 games at Single-A. The 21-year-old is a terrific all-around athlete, and he is finally on track after dealing with some nagging injuries.

After taking dynamic two-way player Reggie Crawford with the final pick in the first round, the Giants scooped up left-hander Carson Whisenhunt in the second round. He slipped following a season-long PED suspension which he attributed to supplements purchased from a nationwide chain. They both have Tier 1 potential.

11. Cleveland Guardians

George Valera (Rob Tringali/MLB Photos via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. RHP Daniel Espino (Tier 1)
2. OF George Valera (Tier 1)

6. 3B/OF Nolan Jones (Tier 2)
7. SS Tyler Freeman (Tier 2)
8. LHP Logan Allen (Tier 3)
9. OF Chase DeLauter (Tier 3)
10. SS Gabriel Arias (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Gavin Williams was the 11th pitcher taken in the 2021 draft (No. 23 overall), but he could wind up being the best pitcher in the class. The 6'6" right-hander has a 1.53 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 99 strikeouts in 70.2 innings between High-A and Double-A in his pro debut this year.

The Guardians rolled the dice on the power potential of Chase DeLauter with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 draft. The 6'4", 235-pound outfielder hit .437/.576/.828 with eight doubles and eight home runs in 24 games this spring at James Madison before a broken foot ended his junior season.

10. Tampa Bay Rays

Taj Bradley (Rob Tringali/MLB Photos via Getty Images)

Top 10 Prospects

1. RHP Taj Bradley (Tier 1)
2. 3B Curtis Mead (Tier 1)
3. SS Carson Williams (Tier 1)
4. LHP Mason Montgomery (Tier 2)
5. 1B Kyle Manzardo (Tier 2)
6. RHP Seth Johnson (Tier 2)
7. 2B Xavier Edwards (Tier 2)
8. IF Jonathan Aranda (Tier 3)
9. OF Brock Jones (Tier 3)
10. RHP Cole Wilcox (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Right-hander Taj Bradley has gone from being a fifth-round pick in 2018 to one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. After a breakout 2021 season, he has continued to dominate against Double-A competition, posting a 1.70 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and an 88-to-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 74.1 innings.

The Rays made the biggest reach of the first round when they took prep first baseman Xavier Isaac with the No. 29 overall pick. The savings they should gain from a below-slot deal there will help them sign a solid crop of college talent taken behind him, led by Stanford outfielder Brock Jones, who hit .324/.451/.664 with 21 home runs and 16 steals this spring.

9. New York Yankees

6. OF Everson Pereira (Tier 2)
7. RHP Hayden Wesneski (Tier 2)
8. RHP Will Warren (Tier 3)
9. OF Spencer Jones (Tier 3)
10. LHP T.J. Sikkema (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

After a disappointing 2021 season and a rough start this year, Jasson Dominguez is hitting .279/.410/.480 with 23 extra-base hits and a 17.5 percent walk rate in 59 games at Single-A since the beginning of May. Be patient, everyone.

With an athletic 6'7" frame, it's easy to think there might be some untapped power potential in first-round pick Spencer Jones. The Vanderbilt star hit .370/.460/.644 with 12 home runs and 60 RBI this spring, although he also struck out 64 times in 61 games.

8. Pittsburgh Pirates

2. C Henry Davis (Tier 1)
3. SS Termarr Johnson (Tier 1)
4. RHP Quinn Priester (Tier 1)
5. 2B Nick Gonzales (Tier 1)
6. SS Liover Peguero (Tier 2)
7. RHP Mike Burrows (Tier 2)
8. RHP Jared Jones (Tier 3)
9. C/OF Endy Rodriguez (Tier 3)
10. LHP Anthony Solometo (Tier 3)

Farm System Snapshot

Oneil Cruz was recalled from the minors on June 20 and has taken over as the Pirates' everyday shortstop. There is no denying his elite raw tools, but he still has a ways to go refining his game, as evidenced by his .204 average, 77 OPS+ and 36.5 percent strikeout rate in his first 26 games.

With the No. 4 pick in the 2022 draft, the Pirates landed a player in Termarr Johnson who could wind up having a legitimate 80-grade hit tool. Questions about his future defensive home aside, he has a chance to be an elite talent and a cornerstone of the club's long-term plans.

7. Minnesota Twins

7. LHP Connor Prielipp (Tier 2)
8. SS/OF Austin Martin (Tier 2)
9. IF Spencer Steer (Tier 3)
10. RHP Simeon Woods Richardson (Tier 3)

Shortstop Royce Lewis hit .300/.317/.550 with six extra-base hits in 41 plate appearances in his first taste of the big leagues before suffering a torn ACL in his right knee for the second year in a row. Despite all of the injury setbacks, he is still only 23 years old.

A legitimate candidate to go No. 1 overall, Cal Poly shortstop Brooks Lee could be the steal of the 2022 draft as the No. 8 pick. He hit .357/.462/.664 with 25 doubles, 15 home runs and 55 RBI in 58 games this spring, and his bat should play just fine with a move to second or third base.

Outfielder Alex Ramirez has struggled a bit since earning an early promotion from Single-A to High-A, but the 19-year-old is still a prospect on the rise, hitting .273/.346/.425 with 29 extra-base hits, 18 steals and an 8.8 percent walk rate in 78 games.

With the No. 11 and No. 14 picks in this year's draft, the Mets walked away with an impact middle-of-the-order bat in Kevin Parada and a high-ceiling up-the-middle prep player in Jett Williams. They also landed hard-throwing Blade Tidwell as one of the better value picks of the second round.

Outfielder Evan Carter continues to impress as one of the youngest players at the High-A level. The 19-year-old is hitting .267/.366/.474 with 30 extra-base hits and 15 steals in 71 games while showing plate discipline that belies his age with a 12.6 percent walk rate.

The Rangers had perhaps the best draft strategy of any team in 2022, reaching for Kumar Rocker at No. 3 overall and signing him to a below-slot deal that saved more than $2 million against slot value. They figure to redirect those savings to Brock Porter, who was widely regarded as the best high school pitcher in the draft before he fell to the fourth round.

Right-hander Wilmer Flores is a new addition to Tier 1. The 21-year-old was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona Western College in 2020, and he has a 2.19 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 61.2 innings between High-A and Double-A.-

The Tigers landed two of college baseball's most productive hitters atop their 2022 draft haul in Texas Tech second baseman Jace Jung (61 G, .335/.481/.612, 14 HR, 57 RBI) and Oklahoma shortstop Peyton Graham (67 G, .335/.417/.640, 20 HR, 71 RBI, 34 SB).

Gavin Stone has been the breakout prospect in a deep Dodgers farm system. A fifth-round pick out of Central Arkansas during the shortened 2020 draft, he has baffled opposing hitters to the tune of a 1.50 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 106 strikeouts in 78 innings between High-A and Double-A this year.

The Dodgers had just one pick inside the top 100 in this year's draft as a result of exceeding the luxury-tax threshold by the maximum amount, and they selected Louisville catcher Dalton Rushing with the No. 40 overall pick. Despite an abbreviated 2022 class, this is still an elite farm system.

The Cardinals had two pitchers jump up to the Tier 1 level this time around in Tink Hence (9 GS, 0.99 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, 48 K, 27.1 IP at Single-A) and Gordon Graceffo (17 GS, 2.18 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 97 K, 99.0 IP). This organization knows how to develop pitching.

He doesn't have the highest ceiling, but left-hander Cooper Hjerpe might be the first starting pitcher from the 2022 draft class to reach the majors. With a funky arm slot and a great feel for his three-pitch repertoire, he racked up an NCAA-leading 161 strikeouts in 103.1 innings this spring at Oregon State.

Even after Adley Rutschman graduated to the majors, the Orioles still have an elite farm system, thanks in part to the rise of Gunnar Henderson as one of baseball's top prospects. The 21-year-old is hitting .294/.428/.540 with 13 home runs, 15 steals and an 18.1 percent walk rate in 79 games in the upper levels of the minors.

While outfielder Druw Jones was the consensus top prospect in the 2022 draft, shortstop Jackson Holliday was not far behind and was by no means a reach as the No. 1 overall pick. The son of former MLB All-Star Matt Holliday, he hit an absurd .685/.749/1.392 this spring with 89 hits in 41 games to break J.T. Realmuto's national high school record for hits in a season.
