The New York Knicks are looking to make some upgrades this summer following a disappointing 2021-22 season, and they might have their eyes on one of the top prospects in the 2022 NBA draft class.

The Knicks have had discussions with the Detroit Pistons about a trade for the No. 5 pick in this year's draft, according to SNY's Ian Begley, and Cam Reddish's name has been included in those conversations.

Reddish, 22, joined the Knicks during the 2021-22 season in a trade from the Atlanta Hawks. He had a minimal role in Tom Thibodeau's lineup, averaging 14.3 minutes per game in 15 appearances.

That said, he can still be an effective depth piece for any team as he averaged 11.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 26.3 minutes per game across two and a half seasons with the Hawks.

The news comes after ESPN's Zach Lowe reported on NBA Today that the Knicks have been "much more active" in trade discussions leading up Thursday's NBA draft.

Begley previously reported that the Knicks have also "talked about offering multiple first-round picks in a package" for the Sacramento Kings' No. 4 selection in this year's draft. Moving up could also cost the franchise one of Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, or Quentin Grimes.

In his latest report, Begley notes "it's fair to believe" the Pistons would have just as high of a price to trade the No. 5 pick.

As the Knicks search for a franchise point guard, the team is rumored to be interested in Purdue's Jaden Ivey, who is widely considered the top player at the position in this year's class. Jabari Smith Jr., Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero are expected to be the first three players off the board, with Ivey available for the taking at No. 4 or No. 5.

The 20-year-old had an impressive sophomore season for the Boilermakers, averaging 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 36 games while shooting 46 percent from the floor and 35.8 percent from deep.

In addition to Ivey, the Knicks have also been linked to Indiana Pacers veteran Malcolm Brogdon. The 29-year-old averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 36 games during the 2021-22 season.

Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer also reported the Knicks will try to clear $25 million in cap space this summer to make a run at current Dallas Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson, who is set to hit unrestricted free agency.

The Knicks are certainly in need of a point guard after Kemba Walker failed to live up to expectations during the 2021-22 season, which resulted in both sides agreeing to sideline him in February.

New York also had Derrick Rose on the roster, but he played just 26 games before missing the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

With Walker and Rose sidelined, the Knicks relied on Alec Burks, and the franchise can't do that again during the 2022-23 season if it wants to return to the playoffs. That said, it's no surprise general manager Scott Perry appears to be exploring all of his options this summer.
