ESPN: Raiders' Marcus Mariota, Vikings' Kirk Cousins Linked to Colts to Replace Wentz

The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly eyeing multiple experienced quarterbacks after trading Carson Wentz.

"The name I'm hearing the most as the Indianapolis Colts' answer at quarterback is free agent Marcus Mariota," ESPN's Dan Graziano reported.

Kirk Cousins is reportedly also an option, but it's not known if the Minnesota Vikings want to trade their starting quarterback.

Mariota made 61 starts across five seasons with the Tennessee Titans, although he's seen limited playing time the last two years while backing up Derek Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Most of Mariota's action with Las Vegas came on gadget plays utilizing the quarterback's athleticism. He rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns during the two seasons, averaging 8.0 yards per carry.

The 2015 No. 2 overall draft pick could use his dual-threat capabilities to provide another dimension in the Colts offense after Wentz averaged just 3.8 yards per carry last season.

Cousins is more of a pocket passer, but he has been much more efficient than Wentz in recent years. The three-time Pro Bowler had 33 passing touchdowns with just seven interceptions last season, producing a 103.1 rating.

Indianapolis doesn't need much production at quarterback to succeed, especially with Jonathan Taylor returning as the NFL's leading rusher. The defense also ranked ninth in points allowed, contributing to a squad that finished just one away from a playoff berth.

The Colts were 9-6 before closing the year with back-to-back losses.

After trading Wentz to the Washington Commanders, Indianapolis' quarterback depth chart includes backups Sam Ehlinger and James Morgan. Without a first-round pick, the chances of getting an impact rookie are also slim.

It leaves the Colts scrambling for options who can help the team in 2022.
