Isaac Bruce Says He, Torry Holt Are Best WR Duo Ever over Cris Carter, Randy Moss

Tyler Conway

Isaac Bruce apparently emphasizes the word greatest when discussing the Greatest Show on Turf.

The former Rams receiver said he feels he and Torry Holt are the greatest wide receiver duo in NFL history.

"It may seem like a whole lot of arrogance to other people, but numbers don't lie," Bruce said Tuesday, per Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports. "Everything we put on the football field, the film, it is what it is. You can always go back and turn it on."

Bruce specifically mentioned the Rams pair is better than Randy Moss and Cris Carter because they won a Super Bowl together.

Of course, it's easy to see why Bruce feels this way. He is fifth on the all-time leading receivers list, and Holt is 16th. Only Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne have a better resume, sitting ninth and 10th, respectively, among star duos who have spent the majority of their careers together.

One could argue Bruce had a higher ceiling than any of the aforementioned three receivers, and that gives the Rams a nod. But that argument quickly loses steam when adding other all-time great duos.

Jerry Rice is the greatest receiver in NFL history, and Terrell Owens has the third-most receiving yards in league history. Their partnership was only five years, but there have never been two greater wideout teammates. Older fans may say Rice's best teammate was John Taylor, though that doesn't really hold merit on objective observation.

Taylor finished his career with 347 career receptions for 5,598 yards and two Pro Bowl appearances. Even accounting for Rice's transcendent brilliance, Taylor's on-field performance doesn't measure up when comparing generational Hall of Famers.

Moss had perhaps the greatest ceiling the league has ever seen and made a dynamic duo with Carter. The pair may have reset the NFL record book if the league were as pass-happy as it is today. Like Rice and Owens, their time together was short (only four years), which may knock them down in the eyes of some evaluators.

Bruce and Holt certainly belong on the short list of the greatest pairs of all time, but you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone outside of Rams fandom who would put them at the top.
