Finn Balor Injury: Updates on WWE Star's Recovery from Shoulder Surgery

Finn Balor not only walked out of SummerSlam with the WWE Universal Championship, but he also left the pay-per-view with a shoulder injury that caused him to give up the title. The injury also required surgery. 

It is currently unclear when he'll return to the ring.

WWE Raw general manager Mick Foley announced Balor has given up the Universal Championship belt because of his shoulder injury just one day after being the first Superstar to capture the title.


WWE Confirms Balor Injury; Reveals Timeline For Recovery

WWE announced the injury on its website, and ringside physician Dr. Chris Robinson commented on Balor's status. "He hit the wall during the match, dislocated his shoulder and was able to put it back in himself in a split second,” Robinson said.

Robinson added that an MRI showed "a possible labrum tear." WWE's release stated Balor is "currently scheduled to receive a surgical consult" and will miss four to six months. 

The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer first reported on Balor's status, noting the early worry inside WWE is that Balor may need surgery to repair the injured shoulder.

Balor's Injury a Crushing Blow to WWE Raw

After coming off such a big show like SummerSlam, the last thing the company wanted to do is have Raw's main title in flux again. Clearly Balor's injury is significant and now WWE must scramble to figure out how to proceed.
