Lakers' Brandon Ingram Claims to Have Never Missed a Free Throw in High School

Kyle Newport

Brandon Ingram excelled at many things while wearing a Duke Blue Devils uniform, ultimately working his way into becoming the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft.

While there is a lot to love about his game, free throws aren't exactly a strong point for the 6'9" forward. It's not like he was trash at the line, going 116-of-170 (68.2 percent) as a freshman, but you would not consider him to be an elite free-throw shooter.

However, rumor has it that Ingram never missed a free throw while he was in high school. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

When you ask the Los Angeles Lakers rookie about it, as Chris Mannix of The Vertical did, he's not going to back away from the story: "Legend had it that in four years, Ingram never missed a free throw. So? 'Most definitely, that's true,' Ingram said."

It doesn't matter who you are, going four years without missing a free throw is hard to believe—unless you hardly ever went to the line. Given Ingram was a highly touted prospect, that seems unlikely. But hey, we'll have to take Ingram for his word.

Unfortunately, high school statistics aren't as easily accessible the way they are for college and professional players. However, MaxPreps has Ingram as a 77-percent shooter for three years of his high school career.

It's up to you to decide for yourself if you believe the tale of Ingram's legendary free-throw shooting.
