After being drafted No. 1 overall by the Chicago Bears in the NFL draft on Thursday, star quarterback Caleb Williams is confident in his ability to turn the team around.

When asked why he's the right player to be the Bears' new franchise quarterback, Williams told NFL Network's Kaylee Hartung: "Because I care. I care about the community. I care about the fans. I care about winning games. I care about my teammates and their families, the coaches, the custodians, all the people around the facility."

Williams has long been projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft class. The former USC star made plays throughout his collegiate career that led many to view him as a generational talent.

After transferring from Oklahoma, Williams dazzled throughout the 2022 season on his way to earning the Heisman Trophy. He posted astronomical numbers of 4,537 passing yards and 42 touchdowns against just five interceptions in 14 starts. He also added 10 rushing touchdowns.

Williams saw a slight regression in 2023 while playing on a Trojans team that lacked a quality offensive line and a No. 1 receiver. Still, he produced 3,333 yards through the air with 30 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 11 rushing scores. He completed 68.6 percent of his passes, setting a new career high.

The 22-year-old is joining a Bears team that finished with a 7-10 record in 2023 and missed the playoffs for the third straight season. Chicago moved on from 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields by trading him to the Pittsburgh Steelers, hitching the franchise's future to Williams.

The Bears had a strong offseason with the additions of veteran receiver Keenan Allen and running back D'Andre Swift, giving Williams a bevy of talent around him on offense.

There will be growing pains as there are with any rookie quarterback in the NFL, but Williams is a potential superstar who has a great chance to lead Chicago back to prominence.
