Jason Kelce Reveals Backstage Scoop on WWE WrestleMania 40 Role and Meeting The Rock

Recently retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce gave some insight Wednesday into his surprise appearance at WWE WrestleMania 40 and how it came together.

Speaking on the New Heights podcast presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Jason noted that he didn't know what he would be doing at WrestleMania until the day of the show. The discussion beings around the one-hour, five-minute mark.

Jason said that while he and his former Eagles teammate Lane Johnson knew they would be wearing Eagles-inspired luchador masks and working with Rey Mysterio in some way, their exact involvement wasn't hammered out until two hours before the start of Night 1.

Kelce and Johnson showed up during the tag team match pitting Rey Mysterio and Andrade against Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio, and they helped Rey and Andrade score the victory.

Following the match, Kelce and Johnson got into the ring, unmasked to a huge reaction from the crowd since WrestleMania occurred at the Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field in Philly, and celebrated with both Rey and Andrade.

Jason also said he got to meet with The Rock backstage, which marked the second time he had rubbed elbows with The Great One.

Kelce divulged that the first meeting occurred earlier in his NFL career, and he doubted that The Rock remembered meeting him back then.

The seven-time Pro Bowler and potential future Pro Football Hall of Famer went on to praise The Rock, who competed in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania, teaming with Roman Reigns in a winning effort against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

The Rock is part of TKO's board of directors and has already teased returning for another match against the current WWE champion in Rhodes, and Kelce believes it is a good thing for wrestling, saying: "I'm just happy he's back involved with WWE in a very meaningful way."
