Undertaker Shoots on Attacking The Rock in Cody Rhodes vs. Reigns at WWE WrestleMania

The Undertaker's appearance during the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 40 earlier this month came as a huge surprise, and he revealed that it took some last-minute planning for things to come together.

The Deadman told the Six Feet Under podcast that he didn't get a text that he'd be involved in the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns until the day of the event.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that WWE originally planned for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to appear in the main event spot, but the two sides couldn't come to terms. That likely explained the late message Undertaker received for his appearance.

The Phenom appeared during the frantic finish to WrestleMania 40's main event. With multiple Superstars interfering in the match on behalf of both Reigns and Rhodes, the 59-year-old showed up to chokeslam The Rock and help The American Nightmare win the title.

It was just the third appearance by The Undertaker in WWE since he was inducted into the company's Hall of Fame as part of the 2022 class. He conceded during the podcast that it's been difficult for him to adjust to retirement, but his appearance at WrestleMania 40 helped improve his outlook.

"Something happened. I have been struggling with it since I retired. This weekend gave me closure," he said. "It really did. It was fun. Obviously, it was fun. Doing this for as long as I have and being involved and how important that storyline was and is. When it was over and I was running out of the building, I'm like, 'I'm good now.'"

WWE is in the midst of a new era with Triple H as the head of creative, so more surprises could be in store down the line.
