Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that any match between undisputed WWE universal champion Cody Rhodes and The Rock is unlikely to occur before WrestleMania 41.

With that said, there is a possibility that the match is already planned for that show.

As it should be.

Rock defeated Rhodes as part of WrestleMania Saturday this year, then interrupted his celebratory promo Monday night on Raw, taking attention away from The American Nightmare and issuing a warning before disappearing for the next few months: don't you ever break my heart again.

The tension was real and the fans in Philadelphia remained engaged in their exchange for the entire first 45 minutes of the broadcast, indicating interest in seeing Rhodes tell his next story with The Final Boss.

There is a story to be told over the next year as to whether Rhodes can beat The Rock in a one-on-one match and, more importantly, it can be responsible for setting up The Great One vs. a returning Roman Reigns in a battle of The Bloodline.

If there is one certain thing, Triple H and the creative team are more than capable of delivering long-term storytelling, as we saw to culminate WrestleMania 40. The idea of them building to a match of this magnitude is an appealing one, to say the least.

Sell: Drew McIntyre Still Doesn't Have A New Contract

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that, despite challenging for, winning, and losing the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 and headlining the following night's Raw, Drew McIntyre still has yet to sign a new contract with WWE.

He wrote, "even though this isn't customary of previous eras of WWE, we're told it's not cause for alarm with the new regime, and has become quite common. We're told that each situation will likely be different, and that there are plans for McIntyre in the company, and they plan on retaining him."

It is somewhat astonishing that WWE would put the effort into building McIntyre into this top-tier heel, prominently featuring him on the biggest show of the year, and continuously intensifying a rivalry with CM Punk without having him locked into a long-term deal.

With AEW owner Tony Khan planning to be very active and aggressive in free agency, WWE is taking a huge risk in heating McIntyre to the extent they have and not putting pen to paper immediately.

Handing over a genuine star like McIntyre to Khan, when he is as hot as he is and has ever been, would be the sort of mistake the company should never make, regardless of how hot it is.

Get the deal done, pay McIntyre for all that he has done over the last six months to prove himself a star beyond the pandemic-era Thunderdome, and ensure he is not free to negotiate elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

Buy: WWE Interested in Collaborating with Other Promotions

Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reported that one of Nick Khan's plans is to form relationships between WWE and other promotions.

"Speaking with numerous contacts surrounding Khan, one of WWE's potential explorations is to engineer a collaboration with other professional wrestling promotions," he wrote.

"He was the one responsible for giving Levesque the green light to work with then-TNA Wrestling President Scott D'Amore, which led to emerging star Jordynne Grace–who is the TNA Knockouts champion–making an appearance in the women's Royal Rumble match this past January."

WWE spent so long isolating itself from other promotions and refusing to work with them that Khan's willingness to explore those options is as indicative of a new era as any. WWE spent four decades sticking to itself and becoming somewhat antiquated as organizations around them forged partnerships that allowed for talent exchanges and massive special events.

It is unknown as to what extent Khan wants to explore those relationships but as Triple H fully takes over as the COO of the company, it will be interesting to see if and how those partnerships evolve.
