LA Knight and 4 Stars Most Likely to Rule the Spring for WWE After WrestleMania 40

Erik Beaston

WWE has already begun to set the stage for the Superstars who will have massive runs following WrestleMania 40.

They are the names who have stayed prominently featured on television throughout the build to the event, and even competed on the grand stage but felt like they were in somewhat of a holding pattern.

From megastars to dominant big men, these competitors will help define 2024 as WWE embarks on a new era under Triple H.

LA Knight

LA Knight earned his first WrestleMania victory Sunday, defeating AJ Styles in a sneaky good match.

It was a big win for The Megastar and the culmination of a career-long journey to the grandest stage in professional wrestling.

It was also the start of a run that could see him reach even greater heights.

There are two realistic paths Knight can take.

One, he stays on SmackDown and challenges Logan Paul for the United States Championship in a feud that has roots dating back to last July at Money in the Bank.

The other sees him drafted to Raw, where he instantly becomes a top contender for the World Heavyweight Championship held by Damian Priest.

Either way, they are high-profile positions for Knight, who remains as popular as ever despite not sustaining the main event push that saw him challenge then-undisputed WWE universal champion Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel in October.

The Megastar has an undeniable connection with the audience and with WrestleMania 40 out of the way, expect Triple H and the creative team to reward that popularity with a significant run.

'Big' Bronson Reed

"Big" Bronson Reed had been a staple of WWE programming before WrestleMania 40 but needed consistent wins to help bolster his status within the company and his relationship with the audience.

He got a big one on the final SmackDown before The Showcase of the Immortals, outlasting the likes of JD McDonagh, Otis, Omos and Ivar to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

The following Monday, he was in a Fatal 4-Way match to determine the No. 1 contender for world heavyweight champion Damian Priest.

Reed did not win that match, mostly because of a springboard 450 splash from Ricochet that drove him through a table, but the Australian should not see his momentum badly affected.

The 35-year-old is a monster of a competitor who can believably hang with everyone from the top stars on the card to the most athletic high-flyers. He is adaptable, has a great presence and looks the part.

His placement in that championship contender's match was no accident, nor was his win in the Battle Royal.

Triple H sees a star in Reed, so don't be surprised if he finally breaks out and becomes the unstoppable force that his talents indicate he should be.

The Final Testament

One of the issues facing Triple H is that he has so effectively built depth on the Raw and SmackDown rosters that there is almost a logjam of talent with no real place to go.

Such is the case for The Final Testament, a faction that made a big splash upon its debut and was even included on the WrestleMania card Sunday in a loss to Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits.

Despite their presence on the biggest card of the year, it still felt like there was only so much upward momentum Karrion Kross, Scarlett, The Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering could enjoy.

That was until Tuesday's NXT when the faction hit the ring following Nathan Frazer and Axiom's tag team title victory over Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker.

They ruined the new champions' celebration and stood tall in the center of the ring, an announcement to the world that they were poised to take over the gold brand.

It is the perfect spot for the stable, which can believably rule over NXT and make life miserable for the likes of Ilja Dragunov, Trick Williams, Carmelo Hayes, Tony D'Angelo and the rest of the brand's top stars.

It also allows Kross to find some creative consistency, something he and his character have lacked since returning to WWE in August 2022.

Back where he found his greatest success as a two-time NXT champion, do not be surprised if he becomes a centerpiece of the show and The Final Testament reigns as the dominant force.

Ilja Dragunov

NXT champion Ilja Dragunov made his first main roster appearance on Monday's Raw, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura in just over four minutes. This was on the heels of another successful title defense against Tony D'Angelo at Stand & Deliver.

The Mad Dragon is one of the best NXT champions in the brand's history and deserves recognition in the conversation for best wrestler in the world. His matches are intense battles and resonate with fans, regardless of the opponent. He is a physical worker who brings toughness out of everyone he works with.

Based on what we witnessed Tuesday night on NXT, he will defend his title against Trick Williams at Spring Breakin' on April 23 or 30 in what should be his swan song with the brand.

Dragunov is a performer similar to Gunther, whom he defeated to win the NXT UK Championship before The Ring General's main roster call-up.

Do not be surprised to see him jump to Monday or Friday nights and tear through the roster in the same manner that his greatest opponent has.

Jade Cargill

The storm is here in the form of Jade Cargill, who followed up a triumphant WrestleMania debut by steamrolling Chelsea Green in seconds Monday night on Raw.

From her debut on SmackDown through the victory over the Superstar most likely to ask for the manager, Cargill has exuded confidence while displaying dominance to this point in her run while winning over fans with her undeniable presence.

Cargill has been a star in the making from the moment she first appeared on All Elite Wrestling in 2021. And with the WWE machine behind her and more in-ring training, she is on the path to changing the game.

Look for that to continue throughout 2024 as she establishes herself as a contender for any championship she desires.
