When Will We Get Cody Rhodes vs. The Rock? LA Knight's Next Feud and More Quick Takes

Graham GSM Matthews

Even in the wake of one of the most well-received and eventful installments of WrestleMania of all time, WWE has left fans with plenty to look forward to in the weeks and months ahead.

That includes a one-on-one outing between The Rock and new undisputed WWE universal champion Cody Rhodes, a massive main event that the two planted the seeds for on Monday's post-WrestleMania Raw.

Of course, it's more a matter of when than if WWE will book the bout and which pay-per-view makes the most sense to host it.

LA Knight's immediate direction following his WrestleMania 40 win over AJ Styles isn't quite as clear, but the endgame remains the same: Beating Logan Paul for the United States Championship. Despite being better suited for The Show of Shows, a Knight vs. Paul feud has real potential to be entertaining on all fronts.

Similar to Rock vs. Rhodes, it's unknown when WWE plans to pull the trigger on the highly anticipated match, especially with a potentially seismic roster shakeup coming up at the end of the month.

This installment of Quick Takes will discuss why Knight vs. Paul is the direction to head in, how All Elite Wrestling's latest questionable tactic could set it backward, Drew McIntyre's future with WWE, and more.

Rock and Rhodes on Track to Collide in SummerSlam Main Event

Rhodes vs. Rock is virtually set in stone following their heated faceoff that opened Monday's electric post-WrestleMania Raw. All that's known is that it won't be anytime soon.

Rock referenced his upcoming absence from WWE TV, which he confirmed during the WrestleMania 40 Night 1 post-show press conference was due to production for his next movie, The Smashing Machine, getting underway imminently.

It was previously reported by PWInsider that The Final Boss will be away filming from May 1 through Aug. 1. That would automatically eliminate Backlash, King and Queen of the Ring, Clash at the Castle and Money in the Bank as options for where it could take place.

That would leave SummerSlam as the best-case scenario, though the event being slated for Aug. 3 would make it difficult for Rock to appear on programming beforehand to build it up.

Bash in Berlin is the next premium live event on Aug. 31, but the main event on that show should involve Gunther. Waiting an entire year until WrestleMania 41 would be unnecessary as that would mean we might not get meaningful advancement with the Bloodline storyline until then.

If WWE wants to make SummerSlam a significant staple on the event calendar again, a Rock vs. Rhodes main event would certainly help.

AEW Takes 2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back

Between an excellent Revolution pay-per-view and a string of strong editions of Dynamite, AEW's last month was one of its best ever. Although it hasn't reflected in the ratings, Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Moné have all been excellent additions to the roster.

The noticeable uptick in the quality of content makes the promotion's latest questionable tactic all the more puzzling.

It was announced during Saturday's Collision that the footage from the backstage incident involving CM Punk and Jack Perry from last August's All In event will air on Dynamite.

This is Tony Khan's response to Punk's unfiltered interview with Ariel Helwani last week in which he shed some light on the story and didn't have much to rave about when discussing the AEW president and the company's culture.

No one comes out of the situation looking great, but airing footage from almost eight months ago on Dynamite is an obvious and desperate attempt to garner interest in the product, especially when there's no endgame with neither guy currently working for them.

It's a recurring pattern with AEW as it can't quite get out of its own way at times.

All Signs Point to Drew McIntyre Sticking with WWE

It's been just over one year since Drew McIntyre's future with WWE was called into question, with rumors and reports running rampant regarding his contract status.

An exclusive from Alex McCarthy of MailOnline in late February revealed that the former WWE champion had not re-signed with the company as of then, and there's been no official update since that his standing with the company has changed.

However, the way WrestleMania 40 went down for him all but confirmed that he's re-signing with WWE, even if he hasn't put pen to paper yet.

It's unlikely he would have beaten Seth Rollins decisively for the World Heavyweight Championship if higher-ups weren't working under the impression he's staying. Although his reign quickly came to an end at the hands of Damian Priest, his moment in front of the fans was well-deserved and long overdue.

CM Punk cost him the title that night by attacking him at ringside and again caused him to lose on the next night's Raw. It would be nonsensical for that match not to happen eventually, regardless of when The Second City Saint is cleared to compete again.

Furthermore, the Clash at the Castle show emanating from his native Scotland on June 15 feels tailor-made for a McIntyre main event. There's bound to be clarity on the situation soon, but his heel run has been too spectacular to not continue.

Mapping Out the Intercontinental Championship Picture

While Sami Zayn being the one to end Gunther's Intercontinental Championship reign at WrestleMania 40 was definitely debatable, the new titleholder has no shortage of credible challengers for the coming months.

After helping Zayn successfully train for Gunther at 'Mania, Chad Gable should be next in line, and it was confirmed on Monday's Raw that he'll be getting his rightful shot on the April 15 edition of the red brand in Montréal.

Regardless of how it ends, the Olympian must remain in the mix because there's an amazing story there with him feeling Zayn stole his opportunity. That can carry on through Backlash on May 4 and beyond with others getting title shots along the way.

Bronson Reed was the last person to pin Zayn two weeks ago, Gunther could be in pursuit of a rematch, and Sheamus' entire identity for two years has been that he's never won the IC title.

A heel turn from Gable and subsequent storyline with Zayn is the most logical route to take. Until then, The Underdog from the Underground can have a fun run as champ and work with the best from both brands as only he can.

LA Knight vs. Logan Paul Remains United States Title Endgame

For many months, it seemed LA Knight was destined to dethrone Logan Paul as United States champion despite the two only ever having interacted in the leadup to last year's men's Money in the Bank ladder match.

The U.S. title was the perfect prize for him to challenge for if world title gold was going to be out of his reach for the foreseeable future. WWE instead went in a different direction by having Knight focus on AJ Styles and Paul defend against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton in a Triple Threat.

Both men emerged victorious from their respective matches on Sunday night, ensuring that a championship collision between them isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Cleveland being the host city for SummerSlam this August could mean Knight vs. Ohio's own social media star will be saved for then, but that's almost too late because there are zero guarantees The Megastar will be as popular by then.

The only obstacle in the way of this clash coming to fruition is the WWE draft, so it's imperative both end up on the same show (provided Knight doesn't take the title from Paul before then).
